Just more supporting evidence of the mystical ways of the Flames third period success so far

Unsustainable!

Is there a gif of the bad Smith goal? I missed it so didn't get to see it. But I'd like to see what everyone was so up in arms about.

I missed the game last night because of the company Christmas party, but that is one bad goal. Yikes.

Smith really looks like he just needs glasses on that goal. It's like he just can't see well and is kind of fumbling for the puck after losing track of it.

Makes me think that's how I would look on pretty much every shot were I in his position.

Looks like he didn't want to throw that leg out, I wonder if he has a groin injury. Almost as if he could feel his body saying don't do it....

On the other hand, it was far out, a muffin, and fundamentally good positioning and reaction should have increased the odds of it being saved .

It almost looks like Smith lost an edge on his right skate that caused him to slip out of position. Regardless, very ugly.

I don't know if injury explains that one. Smith was caught napping, didn't expect a shot from there, tried to bat the puck away, and missed. He may even have been expecting a dump in and was going to go to the back of the net to stop it.

Default Flames feel gritty, oh no Smithy. It’s a comeback W over Philly!

It does if it had an affect on his concentration.

No, good positioning would have guaranteed the save. Every goalie above peewee makes that save. He literally slipped backwards into the net and got out of the way of the puck.

Actually, if you could go back and watch the few seconds before the battle at the blue line between Hanifin and Couturier, you can see that there was another very poor play that directly lead to Hanifin having to try to hold the line.

Neal ringed the puck around the boards from the left circle where it was cut off at the right circle by Derek Ryan who subsequently tried to ring it back behind the net. Normally this is pretty standard to try to gain zone possession and spread out the PK'ers, but Ryan's dump back to Neal was a muffin as soft as butter with 2 Flyers converging onto that track. I forgot who the Philly player was but he cut off that dump back before it even got to behind the net and subsequently flipped it to the blue line where Hanifin tried to keep the line.

Then we all know what transpired. I blame Ryan for that goal for a very weak play on the PP.

As I said, it goes beyond the last game, I've seen on several occasions that he gets out skated by the opposing player and just can't catch up.

And Jankowski on a far more egregious play just stood there like a pylon and let a flyers skater go around him unimpeded to the goal for a goal. The blind faith people seem to have in Jankowski astounds me. If he wants to get top 6 minutes he needs to stop making plays like that. I agree he has the potential to be a number 2 center, but his consistency and compete level are just not good enough to warrant it now.
