They even have an appreciation event this week. Not sure if anyone has been there before. If you can bring the family along and order food there?

Regarding value, I have an edu email for work so I have the built in discount that shades my opinion a bit, but I love the athletic because it covers teams in multiple sports. If I was just a single sport/single team fan, I could see the value being a tougher sell. But there are articles every day I am interested in. So its been great. I have long been against paying for content but this year I signed up for the Washington Post for news and the Athletic for sports. Now I have quality content to read while sitting at work waiting for CP to get interesting!

Just wanted to say the story on Tyler Parsons today was a great read. There is also a complete break down of Czarnik and the style of player that he is (with video). Really great content.

What have people's experiences with The Athletic been so far with respect to the additions of Haynes & Cruickshank? Is there significantly more Flames coverage now than last season?

Can't tell you about last year as I wasn't a member, but with the teams I follow, I'm reading something daily on The Athletic.

There is significantly more coverage. Not quite an article a day it seems, but close. So far in October there have been 5 articles by Cruickshank, 3 from Haynes, 2 from Kent Wilson and one each by Duhatschek, Dellow and Paul Wilson that are Flames focused. Plus a few others that touch on the Flames but aren't really about them (i.e. a look back at Team North America at the World Cup or an article on Dougie Hamilton).

Flames coverage is alright but unless you have a decent chunk of disposable income or have interests outside the Flames I wouldn’t subscribe. I just signed up a month or so ago at the 50% off and based on my experience to date I wouldn’t renew at full price next year but a lot can happen in the next 11 months to change my mind.

This platform is only 'alright' if you're only a one team, one sport type of fellow (that isn't the Toronto Maple Leafs).

If you follow more than one sport, or even like to read league-wide news and articles, then it's a good investment. Not unlike subscribing to a very good newspaper in days past. Vinny mentions that you do have to chip in at about $72 per year, but with the constant promos, free trials and discounts that they offer, usually you don't end up paying full price for the first year anyway.

As for the Flames coverage - let's just say Darren Haynes started to teach himself to be a video guy, and it's working out pretty well in his first endeavour for Sam Bennett.

The NHL coverage is good too. I read some 'insider' articles that were great, one was on certain 'tells' in the NHL:
-When a coach senses he's getting fired
-When a player knows someone else is being sat
-When a GM sense that negotiations are getting warmer

Etc.

Anyone have a link for the sale today? I saw the ad in my facebook feed, but now it's impossible to search.

The yearly fee is set to %50 without a link, it's less than 1/2 the price of the re-occurring monthly.

It probably just adds the confusion. But it puts the place, and work of a goalie coach into perspective.

If what Marcoux said about Sutter taking a slapshot at his head is true, then he's an effin' jerk. Unacceptable

Scott Cullen, formerly of TSN, is now at the Athletic. He used to to the season previews with expected lines and trades and also the nightly stats roundup.

Scott Cullen, also of perhaps the one power rankings feature most detached from reality in the history of power rankings.

Another guy at the Athletic who is more or less a fourth line grinder, generating a high volume of work that is not very special.

Considered subscribing due to guys like Duhatchek and Haynes, they do good work, but still haven’t cared enough to get over the hump.

Isn't that the guy that bull***ted the power rankings with TSN and basically explained that the reason they were so out of whack with reality is because reasons?
