Tanner glass? Bart? Lol they barely played this year.
While I would want Brodie on right side , he was on the left side when they made the playoffs last year
Do posters realize that they had the same pp last year and it was effictive.
I get line changes and in game adjustments as problems .
And yes bottom 6 , especially 3rd line was crap. Would also add Backlund was crap for 2nd half of season

I have seen this argument too many times and if anything it proves the opposite of what you think it should. The Flames had close to the 30th ranked power play for half the season last year. They made adjustments and had a run where it substantially improves corresponding to a change in the outcome of games. This season rather than continuing to adjust and diversify the strategy, they stood pat. With the best power plays in the league you don't know what they are going to do next and they move the puck and people quickly. If you listen to a Dave Cameron interview, the flames strategy is to put "talented" players out there and hope for the best. The special teams was the public justification for firing Hartley and it would be hypocritical to do anything but the same here.

Assuming the Flames lose tonight to the Jets and on Saturday to Vegas Gulutzan will wrap up his NHL coaching career with 10 losses in his final 11 games. What a brutal effort.

And that would somehow be worse than his eight losses in the final ten last year.

Come the end of a long season players get tired of playing for a loser coach who doesn't know what he's doing. Its understandable.

GOAT!

I think his in-game style of being hands off and letting the players figure it out for themselves is what eventually leads to everyone giving up.
I can’t imagine what it’s like as a player to watch opposing coaches make actual in-game decisions to counter what your coach has you doing, only to have your coach respond with... absolutely no response.
Of course his teams always finish on losing streaks. They’ve already given up by then.

The similarities between his tenures in Calgary and Dallas are pretty remarkable as both teams got worse the longer he coached them.

Hopefully the Flames organization is smart enough to fire Gulutzan after two years as well and hopefully they do it as quickly or quicker.

Prioritizing shots on goals and puck control over quality scoring changes and transition
Having Brouwer take 3(!) faceoffs and leaving all 3 PKers in OT a full 2 minutes despite 2 stoppages of play (this one should have gotten GG fired immediately)
Not talking to players after the game, every, single, one
Playing Bartkowsky
Playing Tanner Glass
Playing Stajan well beyond his abilities
Giving the same even strength ice time to the bottom 6 as the top 6.
Sticking to the exact same system from the puck drop to the end of the season, no matter
Not taking a timeout, ever, when things need to be calmed down
Not making goalie changes, until 6 goals have been scored on
Not line matching, even with home ice advantage (Wille Desjardins specialty)
Putting the 4th line on every time a goal against is scored
Those all point to where the problem really lies. Until that is changed, we cannot evaluate this team properly.

In fairness to Glen:
who brought in Stone/Hamilton/Hamonic to push Brodie to the left?
who signed Brouwer?
who fired Hartley for not "prioritizing shots on goal and puck control over quality scoring changes and transition"
signed Bartkowski
signed Glass and recalled Glass
hung on to Stajan at the trade deadline
preaches process
hand-picked Gulutzan
?

Stajan on the 4th line wasn't even in the top 10 of problems this year. What an odd thing to get hung up on.

No kidding. I’d even argue he has been one of the better Flames the past few weeks.

Colorado will play St.Louis this weekend to see who gets the final playoff spot.
What would your expectations be if the Flames were playing that game, at home, on Hockey Night in Canada? I would expect them to come out flat and be down 2-0 before George Canyon finished O Canada.
This is all I need to know about this head coach. It is part of his job to have his team ready to go for the biggest games. He never does. They never are.

Friedman on the Fan this morning said he isn't sure GG is a goner. Not sure how much is just heresay but BT is apparently struggling with the coaching decision. Oh boy! Things could get very interesting the next while.
