I don't disagree, all I am saying it can't be the only thing done because if it is, it is nothing but a symbolic gesture that changes nothing.

Getting pretty off-topic here, but SFU are dropping the name 'Clan' from their sports teams, because apparently the existence of the KKK means nobody can use the word 'Clan' any more.

Never heard of SFU but if it’s not the Wu your Clan is garbage anyway.

I don't see why sports teams wouldn't jump at the chance to totally re-brand their team. New logo. New jerseys. New merch. New dollars.

For the same reason Coca-Cola hasn't appreciably changed their logo in eons. Brand recognition is a big deal.

Not just that but some sports teams have their logo and name all over the arena/stadium, new signage and in some case new seats (I've seen team names spelled out in different color seating) aren't exactly free and neither is the manpower to make those changes.

Actually, the Wu appears to have dropped the Clan from their name too. Their newest album was put out as Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues, their recent documentary series was Wu-Tang: Of Mics and Men, and the TV about them is Wu-Tang: An American Saga

I hadn't thought of that implication before and I guess it's a small and relatively insignificant example of how embedded racism can get.

The American president really helping things out by not fanning the flames of hatred and ignorance. Surprised he didn’t call it a “Jussie Smollett situation”

When he says "flag decision", he's talking about NASCAR banning the Confederate flag at races, right? Even if one ignores the racist history behind the use of that flag by the Klan and other white supremacists, do we really have a sitting president of the United States complaining that a private company is banning the flag used by traitors against America who were responsible for the deadliest war in US history? Is that what the USA has come to?

Yeah I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on that part. It seems like everyone is focused on defending Wallace, which, fine... but the dude thinks that banning the confederate flag from Nascar races was the wrong call. Who does that appeal to? Is that even a majority opinion among Nascar fans? I tend to doubt it.

https://morningconsult.com/2020/06/1...rate-flag-ban/

Your faith in American nascar fans is misplaced.

Quote:
The survey, conducted Tuesday into Thursday, found that a plurality of the sport’s fans disagree with the ban. Forty-four percent of self-identified NASCAR fans said race attendees should be allowed to express themselves however they want, including by displaying the Confederate flag. By comparison, 30 percent of fans supported a move to prohibit the flag at the track and 27 percent either didn’t know or had no opinion on the matter.

Sounds like the majority is at least ok with them banning it.

Trump is doubling down on a position only supported by 44% of NASCAR fans. What is that going to accomplish?
