Maybe a silly question but how is Glenn Gawdin getting votes? Does this guy actually have a chance at being something? I thought he was an overager who lit up the WHL but had bad feet and would be a career AHLer, don't know much past that can someone provide some insight?

At this point, a long career in the AHL might be the best of the bunch.

I had considered voting for Lomberg for this reason. He is likely the only player of the lot who is guaranteed to see another NHL game, let alone get a point in the NHL.

Still, Ruzicka has some upside. He is six four and in preseason camp last season he did show some flashes of skill, especially puck control. I'm not sold on him entirely, but his OHL numbers are pretty solid, and the AHL will be a proving ground for him.

Maybe I'm just being too optimistic, but it always feels like one or two of the lower ranked guys surprise and go on to have solid careers. Out of the bunch left I think all of these guys have potential (some more than others):

I will admit that I dont know much about the NCAA prospects. What exactly is the appeal of Koumontzis?

Treliving recently gave him some public praise

Which probably means he is disappointed in him and wants to increase his trade value like he “praised” Kanzig and Drew Shore

He jumped straight from high school hockey to the NCAA where he helped ASU have their best season ever. He put up 20 points in 34 games as a freshman. That was 6th in the entire country ahead of a guy like Oliver Wahlstrom who went in the first round and later played AHL games last season. The other freshmen ahead of him were all second and first rounders except for MEP. ASU didn't have a ton of firepower either.

He was relatively unknown when he was drafted, but he is starting to get noticed now as US Hockey invited him to their world junior summer showcase.

Treliving singled him out at development camp this year as the most improved player. The Flames obviously like his skill set as they took him in the 4th round.

Flames Director of Development thought Koumontzsis flew under the radar during the draft because of a major injury the year before which eventually led him to playing another year of high school hockey where he led the league in points. He even went as far to say if they could snag him in the 4th round they would be getting a steal.

Still a long term prospect, but the potential is there and you have to be happy with his development so far.

The votes for sure, I get a lot of people don't get a chance to watch most of the prospects play. Just seems strange make a comment and brush off a prospect who's stock has only risen since being drafted.

Also in support of Ruzicka (voted Yelesin though)

- highest NHLe of the players remaining (pretty sure at least)
- higher NHLe this season than Pelletier, MEP, Phillips etc
- has size
- good defensively and on faceoffs which lowers the bust factor for me

Switched my pick from Roman to Ruzicka this round.

At this point for me, it's between those 2 and Yelesin.

People seem to really like these obscure feel-good stories or new things that were just drafted.

Yelesin should have been 4th or 5th on this list because he is actually an NHL defenseman today based on pedigree. All the rest of these guys are probably long shots to play more than 5 NHL games.

Yelesin at 4th or 5th is way too high. Guy still looked incredibly raw at development camp (small sample size in July, of course) and we have no idea how he'll translate to N.A. hockey. I doubt he'll come close to making the Flames, they have, what, eight defensemen ahead of him right now? Nine?

Being a KHL all-star is nice, but even most KHL all-stars aren't anywhere close to NHL talent. Jakub Nakladal was on Yelesin's all-star team this year, which should say a lot.

I'm never going to tell someone how to vote, but I just don't understand why playing in a game or two as filler is a big hurdle for a prospect when it comes to ranking their value.

Ryan Lomberg will always be an energy guy that will likely never be a full time NHL player at any role. If he is, which I can't see, it's a fourth liner or a popcorn muncher.

I just don't see players like that as prospects, they're fillers.

When I vote Gillies soon it will be because of the unpredictability of goaltending, and his tools that could still translate and not because he's the next guy up if a goalie gets hurt.

Which obscure, feel good stories are you referencing?

Yelesin has potential, but it's impossible to say he is an NHL defenseman right now and her certainly shouldn't be 4 or 5 on the list.

As someone alluded to earlier plenty of very good KHL players haven't been able to sustain an NHL career. Dawes, Cervenka, Nakladal, Shipachyov, etc. Not to mention he has has 2-4 more years of development time than a lot of these prospects.

That Stillman interview on Ruzicka has me higher on him than previously.

Just listened to an interview with Asst GM Brad Pascall and when talking about Talbot/Rittich he brought up Gillies name. He seems to be on the radar for sure. If Talbot leaves after a year and Gillies has a decent season he could be in the nhl in a year as Rittich’s backup.

So yeah I voted Ruzicka and then I’ll pribably vote Gillies
