Bouma switching to #17
So it has already been announced that the following new players will wear these numbers:
TJ Galiardi - #39
David Jones - #54
Corban Knight - #10
Shane O'Brien - #55
Plus Horak has switched to #21, and Monahan has #23 obviously.
But it looks like Bouma is being given a real number now too, #17.
Certainly reinforces the idea that the Flames management think highly of Lance and feel he has a well defined role on this team going forward.

Totally forgot about Bouma. Super excited for him to take that mucker role. Hopefully he stays healthy all season or for atleast 60 games. If not.. I wonder what the futureholds for him.

Man I remember when he scored his first NHL goal. Can't wait to see some more this season!

I've always been underwhelmed by Bouma. He seemed to me to be the perfect stereotype of a Sutter player.
I guess someone with a low ceiling needs to take those defensive zone starts and pk etc.
Maybe I just want him to be a different style than he is. I hope he does well in his role this season, I think I'd rather a younger guy than Begin or Jackman since it's a rebuild and everything..

Don't think Jackman is a fair comparison as the guy doesn't even fight anymore. He's just a washed up bum still living off that one good season he had. Hoping Bouma develops more like Prust.

17 and 21 make me shudder, reminds me of the horrors of Bourque/Comeau/Jokinen
But I'm a big Bouma fan

Jackman was never a fighter until he was forced into that role. He is an energy player that bangs and crashes. Just because he is big people labelled him a fighter, which he never really was.

This. I mean, better to give him the role than a retread veteran, but I really don't see anything in Bouma beyond a dime-a-dozen, instantly forgettable NHL player.

No problem with Bouma platooning on the 4th line as a physical energy guy. He's not going to make an impact in that role, but I don't think he hurts the club either. And his contract doesn't break the bank.
He's basically a prototypical 4th liner. Might as well be him.

It looks like Reinhart will never get his dad's number(23) when he makes it in the NHL.

Hope Knight can play up to the number 10. If he can become a mix between Gary Roberts and Guy Chouinard, we'll all be happy!

As far as I can tell the only thing Bouma has going against him is that his mother named him Lance.
