I'm working on my backlog and Control is on the short list. I just got into Monster Hunter World. The learning curve seems a little steep but the few hunts I've done are fun. I was going to try Rise first but then I remembered I had bought World on sale.

I tried Monster Hunter World on my switch and it's hard to stick with. Worth giving another chance??

It's a relatively niche game IMO. You gotta love the grind of it, that's the whole point. If long drawn out battles that feel like you're spitting into the wind for 90% of them are your thing then yes stick with it. Getting into the rhythm of battle and sharpening and items takes a while but once it does you're good. It is very rewarding once you do take down a Diablo and get all your loot to build more armor...to go on harder hunts...to build better weapons...to go on harder hunts...to build more armor...

It helps a lot if you have other people to play with. I know with MHW trying to solo was pretty irritating unless you went with the glaive and the escapability it provided

Thought Switch got the port of the Wii U title but don't think it got World which is a very set up I think.

No, it isn't. It has MH: Rise as an exclusive right now.

I'm just starting out on MH: World so maybe the grinding will get to me but so far it's fun.

World and Rise are much less obtuse and grindy then the series got its reputation for leading up to them.

The $1 deal is for Game Pass Ultimate and includes Xbox Live Gold and EA Play.

That is a one month deal for $1 and renews at regular price

If he is saying he has 4 years for a dollar a year I think he used the $1 trick to convert your gold membership into ultimate. (in that case you would need to buy gold first)

If there is another way to get 4 years for a buck a year I would like to hear it and you should post it on red flag deals

So I've had Gamepass PC for awhile now, but I'm likely going to pick up a Series X later this year. Would I be able to let my PC Gamepass expire, subscribe to Xbox gold for as long as possible, and then convert that to ultimate for $1? Or is that deal only for brand new subscribers?

Pretty much, it will sometimes reset itself to try and get you back if you remain unsubscribed for a while but that's like 6 to 12 months. if you're on Game Pass PC it might give you the deal for Ultimate though.

I'm just pointing out there is $1 upgrade deal and maybe there's some renewal weirdness / bug related to that that they've managed to be the beneficiary of. Or maybe they aren't good at looking at their credit card statement.

Since I know a bunch of you here played and enjoyed Nier Automata, I thought I'd share some pictures of some familiar sights in the crossover with Final Fantasy XIV. Story wise, it's technically something that happens after the game. Those with more intricate knowledge of Drakengard, Nier Gestalt/Replicant and Automata probably got more out of the story than I did, but overall I really enjoyed it. Great areas, boss fights and music.

Edit: for those who clearly have never known the joys of NCAA the only real similarity it had to madden was that they were both football games. Most people had a favourite and stuck with it. They have similar play calling mechanisms and that’s about all. Some of the love is nostalgic of course but it really was the superior game, I stopped playing football games altogether when it died. Madden doesn’t come close to scratching that itch. I suppose now we should call off the fatwa on Ed O’Bannon.

Yeah I have to agree with a lot of this, and that's coming from an NFL-first fan and someone who cracked out on Madden from the 90s to about Madden 08. NCAA recruiting is way better, and just the crowd atmosphere. A lot easier to execute outside runs too.

Also just the nature of NCAA trying to win a title, as you basically can't lose a game. Madden franchise mode is fun for a couple years when you're learning, but once you've got it down the season feels like a grind, you know you're going to go 15-1 so it just drags as you're trying to just get to the playoffs. Whereas in NCAA, you basically can't lose a game if you want a shot at the 'ship. Makes every game feel like a playoff game so it keeps complacency at bay. I can't wait until it's back.

Back to Madden and why I searched for old Madden 21 posts just now: finally got 21, enjoying it (and I love the new Scouting Mode: spending points on someone projected to go undrafted and unlocking they're actually a 1st/2nd round talent - or learning a projected high 1st rounder is a bust - feels good) but man is Skills Trainer finicky, especially on D. I basically do exactly what it asks, but it tells me I failed. It feels so random, I'll do the same move every time like it asks, sometimes it gives me a pass, sometimes it doesn't. I don't get it...

UPDATE: Yeah #### Skills Trainer, I'm done with that mode. Did exactly what it asked every time, but got 0/5 on my attempts. Get outta here...

Glad that Madden is included in Gamepass now, so I can feel better about playing it without directly giving EA my money.

Yeah I believe it about Scouting Mode, I haven't done a proper franchise in Madden since 08 probably. I played 20 a lot with my buddy doing our "Basement Bowl" tourney, but that was always just exhibition mode.

Yeah it totally seems glitchy! Even on PS4. For one, every single time I turn on the game to get into Franchise Mode, my updated one doesn't generate. I always have to first go into the one that generates from week 4 of preseason, back from my very 1st save, then exit out, and then my updated one finally generates. I have to do this every. Single. Time. So weird.

Plus just odd things during a game. 2 different games I had the opponent deep in my end for what would be a game-winning FG, but both times they just let time expire despite having timeouts left. I won both games in OT, it felt so cheap. Like my older brother let me win or something. I don't get why stuff like that happens.

Still enjoying it overall though, I don't want to crap all over it. I'm playing on All-Pro, Simulation, the games are such barn-burners. Just eked out a last second win in the NFCCG, was really fun.
