If he's in the neuro ICU it very likely means he has severe brain swelling and they need to aggressively control his intracranial pressure. Many causes of that be it a bleed, stroke, infection, inflammation, trauma and lots of zebras.

If you're playing the odds for his demographic, its statistically most likely to be an infectious/inflammatory cause - ie. meningitis.

I recall he was having the seizures prior to passing away. Was he not properly diagnosed or was there post complications?

Not to hijack the thread, but I have been thinking about him a lot lately. He was such a huge Backlund fan and I was more pessimistic about him. He was always telling me to wait and see.... man, he would have loved seeing him play this season. Phanuthier, this crow's for you buddy...

Anyway, I hope Okposo pulls through with no permanent damage. It's so scary that something like this can happen to anyone at any time no matter how healthy one is.

With him in the neuro ICU, what are the chances of it being a stress-induced brain aneurysm? My friend believes that's what it is.

What scares me is that when people have weird head aches or chest pains, the initial reaction from others is "you'll be alright" but unless some accident takes you out early, every single person will eventually succumb to something that will probably start with a weird head ache or chest pain. Scary stuff.

I'm less qualified to comment than Dr Fart, but I don't think stress can cause a aneurysm to develop

This is exactly what I was thinking. Mysterious illness that comes out of nowhere. Now in the ICU for neurological problems.

This is far more likely than some weird concussion/stroke thing that comes out of nowhere on a young healthy man who routinely goes through physicals.

It's either that or Lupus.

There is an exploding tick population in Upstate/Western New York, as is the case in several other parts of the Eastern U.S.

Neurological complications are one of the more serious late stage symptoms for Lyme Disease and a few other tick-borne illnesses. I wouldn't be surprised if Okposo is dealing with something tick-related, as it is being reported that he was dealing with an "illness" that led to the need for hospitalization.

Not sure what you mean by stress induced...like a pseudoaneurysm from prior trauma, or a pre-existing berry aneurysm rupturing from high blood pressure?

Either way, I don't think it is an aneurysm because these are typically obvious on medical imaging. Assuming they're being honest, they wouldn't issue a statement of having trouble "pin pointing the illness".

"It's never Lupus.". Gregory House MD

Had Okposo been ill before the hospitalization or did this happen really quickly?

Again I may be wrong but Lyme disease is very chronic disease so a sudden trip to the ICU would seem unlikely

As someone who contracted meningitis in his mid 20's, I can tell you that it knocks the hell out of you. Fortunately, I was able to fully recover and suffered no permanent long-term effects, but it took me a good 4-6 months after I was discharged from hospital before I felt like I was fully back to normal (dropping 40 pounds during my hospital stay likely had something to do with it as well). Here's hoping whatever is ailing Kyle is resolved in short order and he's out of ICU/hospital soon.

Exploding ticks? Surely that can't be right.

Standard fare for CP M.D. Radical diagnosis first, reasoned thought later.

Well, I was just reading a story about an Android developer that thought he had a toothache and collapsed at the door of the dentist. Ends up with swelling in the brain and in a coma. Crazy stuff can happen. Hope Okposo is OK.
