Staples and Spector just breathed a huge sign of relief. This is the excuse they've been waiting for. They'll be writing the "what if" articles by the end of November and they'll be writing the "just wait until the Oilers are at full strength next season" articles by the end of February.

Poor Bouchard. His career is going to be over in November when they run him out of town.

Sucks for sekera, who was out for much of last year too...
With the lack of any real depth, am sure they will rush their new toy/1st round pick into their opening day lineup.

WebMD tells me the recovery time for Achilles Tendon surgery is 4-6 months, so that means they won't be able to write him off for the full season on LTIR.

The response gif's in that thread are great. Fans have given up before the season starts. Maybe I should double my bet this year, and get 2 lunches out of my hopeless Oiler fan friend.

Sekera is done that is 2 major injuries back to back.
So their blue line is Larson, Klefbom, Nurse, Russell, Benning, Bouchard/Bear?
Man that is TERRIBLE.
Their forward group outside of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge is one of the worst in the league. They are praying that Puljujarvi breaks out or Yammamoto is ready. I don’t see Lucic bouncing back and Reider/Brodziak were not massive upgrades on Maroon/Letestu.
I really hope this team is as bad as they look next year.

Luckily they still have 5 or 6 Mark Giordano's on the team.

I mean, Sekera looked terrible coming off his injury at the end of last season. His career in the NHL at least is probably over.

Achilles recovery time depends sport to sport.
Hockey - Justin Williams - 2 months.
Soccer - David Beckham - 5 months.
Basketball - Kobe Bryant - just shy of 8 months.
Football - Tyrell Suggs - 5 months.
Sekera could easily be back by Oct-Nov.

This is why organizational depth at the blueline is so important (and why it is too soon to move Stone).
The Oilers continually make the same mistake of handing jobs to people, and assuming they will fill them. The moment someone gets hurt (or doesn't live up to the billing), the season is derailed, because they don't have the depth to overcome.
Just wait 'til next year though!
