I can go months without drinking without it bothering me at all, but when I drink I like to get drunk. I'm not big on social drinking.

Is that a drinking problem?

You have a problem with drinking, not a drinking problem.

If you could cure hangovers you would cure so many drinking problems.

It makes me sick as a dog drinking any so it's not really a problem, somewhere along the line I developed an allergy. Oh well, not the worst thing I guess.

Its not a daily habit, more of a weekly one but most of the times when I drink I drink to blackout.

And yes this is a problem.

Drinking is only a problem if you have a problem with it.

I hear ya man. Though I'm drinking everyday (at night after work only). Not till black out but I always have a buzz on. I need to stop it there's no reason for it, it's a waste.

So basically a binge drinker? If you drink until blackout on a regular basis yes I'd say that's a problem. So what are you going to do about it?

Right there with you in a different way. I've tried and tried and my problems only gotten worse. I'm pretty reckless when drunk doing things my family/friends don't like and then not remembering.

I think I'mma have to call it quits, anyone ever done that here?

Just remember, AA is for quitters.

(In all seriousness, if you think you have a problem there are tons of resources out there. Self awareness is a good first step)

Edit - yup, I've just up and quit once. When I was up north on the rigs in my early 20's I was binging hard - too much money and free time. I'd lose track of what day of the week it was, where my car was, fun things like that. Plus I had a family history of alcoholism. So I just stopped. Dried out for a year and now drink socially. I have a friend who is an addiction counselor and what I did was ok but he has said I was more lucky than good.

Only thing I think I can do is let go of booze all together.

I was a binge drinker throughout most of university, but I really grew to hate hearing all the stories the next day about things I had said/did, but couldn't remember. I hate that loss of control. So, I quit.

I rarely, if ever, drink now. I think the last time I had a drink was my birthday in October. Before that, probably last Christmas. It just doesn't do it for me anymore. Old age, I guess.

I think so too. I can't have one or two that's just a waste of time for me. Don't get a buzz off of that. I need to just quit.
