Someone probably asked to put Conner McDavid on the graphic - “the Oilers captain”.

Whoever made the graphic found a picture of the Oilers captain.

So to summarize. NBC pulls out early. Turner and ESPN double team the NHL?

The big question is, is Pierre McGuire going to ESPN or TNT?

I'm sure it was down to Ference vs. Chris Phillips for that spot on the image.

NBC just isn't going to tell him they aren't doing games anymore. They'll tell him to go to games and give him an unplugged mic. Kinda like when your little brother wants to play video games with you.

lol, I think Thneed's explanation makes the most sense. I guess my issue is I forgot McDavid was their captain. I was expecting to see "Connor McDavid" written underneath Ference.

Get McDavid to NYC...he could score 1000 points in Edmonton and nobody would know who he is outside of Canada

Kenny Albert has been named the voice of the NHL on TNT. Good choice. I like his work.

Eddie Olcyzk has been named the lead analyst on TNT.

On the ESPN side, Ray Ferraro looks to be the lead analyst there.

Ferrero is awesome. I'll take him over McGuire anyway.

I really hope ESPN gives us a steady dose of Emily Kaplan. She's one of the best in the US right now.

Someone once (may still have) had a signature “I hate so much what Ray Ferraro chooses to be.”

Is he less miserable nowadays?

As a Chicago Fan, I get Olcyzk on the majority of Blackhawk games. He is OK, and is balanced, in that he will fairly criticize both team's flaws. He gets a little obnoxious with his verbal tics, like "stop it there!" (in replays) and in killing time in blowouts. Apparently he will be allowed to continue to do NBC's Triple Crown horse racing stuff.

McGuire is awful...most Americans don't give a single F about a player's midget coach, or junior pedigree, McGuire drones on and on in name dropping this BS.

I think they put on McGuire as a kind of Dick Vitale for hockey - similar demeanor and appearance.

He's trying very hard to be Ron McLean with all those refences and name drops that's largely irrelevant.

Looks like Wayne Gretzky is going to TNT in the role similar to Charles Barkley.

He’s getting paid $5M/year. Does that mean he’ll no longer be employed by the Oilers?
Apparently ESPN offered him only $2M/year

However Gretzky’s camp is denying the news.

Charles Barkley actually has personality and is funny as hell though. A more fair comparison is Jeremy Roenick. Granted the kind of stuff he has said has cross the line. Although Barkley can say some politically incorrect stuff also. But different culture/environment so different level of tolerance.

The personalities is why Inside the NBA is so great. It's less about the boring analytical stuff, and moreso about guys just talking about ball like a group of friends be.

With that said, it's good TNT is actually getting players that were actually good to be the personalities on the set though. It's a lot more interesting to listen to Gretzky rather than Colby Armstrong. It's why Sportsnet & TSN is so damn boring with their crew. Bieska is the first to really lighten things up and is enjoyable to listen to. Burke also was a good listen too.

According to the NY Post Gretzky will get ~$3 million per year to be their lead analyst. He resigned his position with the Oilers earlier today.
