Acey this is very hard news to digest. I’ve been on this site for a long time and this may very well be the toughest story I’ve encountered here. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I’d also like to state a thank you for sharing your experience. A lot of my circle has been dealing with Covid fatigue and I know they are slipping in their diligence in regards to doing what we need to be doing in order to keep ourselves safe. Your fathers ordeal has been a daily reminder for me to not take this lightly. Ive had numerous opportunities to let my guard down recently and I haven’t because I read this thread. Im sorry to hear that Covid will claim your father.

We’ve all been reading from the sidelines here, would it be offside to ask for you to share your fathers first name, or make one up if you are not comfortable, so we know the name of the man instead of a number on the day. I feel your father has become a member of this community and I’d like to address him properly. That said please do not feel as though you need to comply with this request, it may very well be offside and if it is I am sorry as it was not the intention.

Understandably this has not been an easy road for you to walk but know this community will help you take a step forward when you need assistance, just ask.

Take care Acey.

I also hope you go tomorrow, Acey.
My brother died in Jan and my greatest regret will always be that I wasn't able to say goodbye.
Take care of you and those you love. It is wonderful to hear you celebrate his life. He lives in these warm memories and was obviously much loved.
Wishing you peace and comfort.
Stay safe friend.

Getting to say goodbye can be huge. Mourning is funny because it's not linear and you can start before it's even certain you've lost someone.

The fact that the last way you get to see your father, while he is all intubated, it's so brief a moment that it doesn't over ride all your other memories, saying goodbye is totally what you should do if your heart tells you too.

Condolences Acey from me and my family! I literally lump up and want to cry for you.

I have dealt with death, many times. The only thing that helps is time and you celebrating his life.

Acey - if your posts here could be made public in a news story, it might do some good in reminding people why we need to beat this virus. The human story tells more than numbers.

I brought my children to see Dad just before he died - they wanted to see him even though he was unconscious. It was important for them to do that.

Dr. Wayne Edwards.

I'll definitely be going this afternoon, my brother seems to be on the fence but he has got to see him about 8 times in the ICU already, while I never got to go. I will post again this evening.

Awe #### this is terrible news Acey....Thoughts are with you, your bother and mother at this difficult time. You mentioned a bunch of pages back that you don't have a huge social circle however this CP community is a massive social circle please don't ever forget that and feel free to reach out whenever you need to chat. I lost my Mom when I was in my early 20s and it helps so much to lean on people, from telling a childhood story to just talking about how you feel it does help. So please in closing feel free to reach out to me or anyone else on CP anytime. Stay safe.

Condolences Acey, a truly heartbreaking story. Others have said it much better than I can but there is no right or wrong way to grieve, everyone does it in their own way and you too will find your own path through these sad times.

Thank you for sharing, it could not have been easy. I think it is a pretty important story and a huge reminder that there are very real people suffering in unimaginable ways throughout this past year.

Thoughts are with you and your family.

Acey, my condolences. I wish that your father was successful in his fight. It sounds like he was a good man. I found it particularly touching that he was looking after arrangements for his patients until he went in.

As others mentioned, there is no right way to grieve. Losing someone, you can expect to have times where it hurts a ton, times where you may get absolutely exhausted, and will have moments where you feel better. Days and weeks later, even after it seems like things have settled and your loss isn’t consuming as much of your thoughts, it may randomly hit you like a ton of bricks.

I found it helpful when going through it to do what we could to celebrate his life, was fortunate to have family to be there for, and who were there for me. It sounds like your family has been going through it together, and that’s part of it.

I appreciate you sharing what you have been going through, it’s got to be tough, and it’s heartbreaking.

Take care, and like others said, feel free to reach out. Our thoughts are with you as you are going through this
