That should be a steal within 2-3 years. Good deal.
Does that mean Suzuki becomes the "Giordano" limit that Calgary once had? Caufield falls under his cap hit by 25k p/year.

This is an example of a deal we should’ve signed in 2019 with Tkachuk.

Geez...I think he's pretty talented, but he's pretty small and gets manhandled at times. Hasn't come close to a PPG scoring rate yet and doesn't do much else on the ice to help the team. Is nearly $8 million per year the going rate for that now?
Hasn't played close to a full season yet and only played 46 games this year due to injury. I worry that he won't play enough to warrant this contract.
Maybe I'm out to lunch, but this is exactly the type of player you bridge because he has a ton of risk in his game still.

.43 career goals per game to date. I don’t think he’s ever going to be a PPG player, but this is a guy that will likely be looking at multiple 40 goal seasons. And it’s hard to find players with that kind of scoring ability. I think this is Montreal knowing they would’ve had to pay more had they gone with a bridge to start. It’s a good deal for Montreal.
I wish players like Caufield and Zegras the best of luck, because these two players are players Edmonton should’ve selected over Broberg.

I just knew somebody would post in the first 5 or so responses that we should have done this deal with Tkachuk lol
It would have taken a lot higher AAV to get it done, and then those same folks would have been bitching non stop for the next two seasons when Tkachuk's production regressed from his (at the time) career high in 2018/19.
For those saying this is a great deal for Caufield, I'm glad it's settled right now and we don't have to wait to se how the next 8 seasons go lol

Yeah, I’m pretty sure .85 more wouldn’t have done it for Chucky. He wanted what he got in his last year, probably for a 6 year deal.

So if Coronato produces in the 20 goal range is this the type of deal we are looking at?

He literally said he would have and that the organization didn’t provide him with security was a factor in his decison to leave.
His brother signed also signed long term for about $500,000 more / year.

Maybe. The latest trend seems to be locking up players in their prime rather than paying $$$ to free agents that are on the wrong side of their prime. Caufield still has a lot to clean up in his game but he has a talent of scoring goals that can't be taught so this could be a bargain or even if he's he remains a one dimensional goal scorer for the duration it may only be a slight overpayment.

In 3-4 years when the cap is up probably the amount of that contract even if he isn't quite the player they project him to be, its not an anchor.

His brother is irrelevant
And like I said he wasn't signing for anything close to this $$ wise
He literally said he wanted to sign long term last may too so...

High 7's is about to become the new 5.75M aav pretty quickly. This is a good signing. Teams should be trying to get their guys under contract this offseason.

Haha Nurse is getting like 9.5. 8 mill / year as corsi said is the new 5.75. This is going to look great later on.. these types of players don't grow on trees
