Hit the Net Fantasy League started in the 2009-10 season with the intent to replicate the NHL GMs job as much as possible. Over those 14 years, the league has evolved and changed as the NHL has but we have been consistent in striving to give our GMs a high-quality experience. We believe we have achieved this as we have a number of GMs who have been with us since the start and a number of GMs who have been in the league for more than a handful of seasons. Our GMs consistently tell us we are one of the best-run fantasy leagues they have been part of. Our classic league is 24 teams comprised of:
Up to 23 NHL-level roster players with a minimum of 3LW, 3RW, 3 C, 3 F, 6 D, and 2 G per team. The three remaining optional reserve positions may be comprised of players from any position
Up to 18 prospect-eligible players
Scoring: 1 point for each goal or assist by the 18 skating players on the active roster. Active roster goaltenders will receive 2 points for a win and 3 additional points for a shutout.
Teams will keep 7 Forwards (and positions), 3 Defence, 2 skaters (F or D), and 1 goaltender from year to year.
The Salary Cap is the NHL cap plus 5% rounded up.
Entry fee: $30 + 50% deposit on next season.
Cash prizes for the regular season final standings are handed out for 1st through 4th and for the midseason leader. Our playoffs, run during the NHL playoffs, reward the champion, runner-up, and conference finalists.

Like every league, we have some yearly turnover and this year happens to be larger than average. We have five teams available. Our standard approach to off-season change is to pool the players from the vacant teams and allow new GMs to hold a mini-draft to claim keepers and prospects from the pool. This approach has proven successful in the past as new GMs get to put their stamp on the makeup and direction of the team immediately, instead of just inheriting someone else's (often) mess.
