This is great news. It was only a matter of time though. The city wants/needs this as much as the Flames. Nice to have the province on board as well.

I know this has a large political angle, but as someone not living there, I'm honestly curious if folks can/will/want to look past the political part or mix it in but also be happy a new arena is coming? This is a fan site....has to be huge to get an arena deal, no?

Great news because it’s a key part of rejuvenating the entire area, an area that badly needs it, an area that plays a crucial roll in tourism. Like I said, this is just as important to the city as it is the Flames.

To your point, it's a political thing for sure.
But parking all that, from a pure fan perspective, and Calgary entertainment perspective - getting an updated events centre in the city if very exciting news.

Wishing we'd be the city that finally stood up to these owners was a foolish dream. I'm guessing it took a unelected AM radio talk show host for boomers throwing more of our money in to make Edwards happy.

I feel like this is going to be a genuine fiasco.
An unelected talk-show host who needs Calgary in order to get re-elected and happens to be in charge of our money is going to subsidize a new arena.
