The dance is cool, but saying you can't pay teachers enough because of choreography?

75% of the teachers/profs I had were ####. And it wasn't a result of the pay because nobody goes into teaching for the paycheque.

Taiwan's had some pretty strong earthquakes this weekend, two over 6 on the moment magnitude scale. Here's Taipei 101's tuned mass-damper swaying during yesterday's quake.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1571683093253177344

For context, that ball weighs 728 metric tons and is suspended on the 87th floor of the building.

Here is another video on the structural engineering of what was once the world's tallest building and how the mass damper keeps it safe during earthquakes and typhoons.

That's cool to see. I remember going to see that back when the 101 was still the world's tallest building. First building I'd ever been in with a mass damper like that. Seeing it in action during an earthquake is kind of amazing. Beautiful building too.

There was some crazy video out of PNG recently too with the earthquakes there. This one with huge cracks opening up in the ground from Sept 11th is wild.

^Ah, Edward Gorey. Fantastic artist with a great, but macabre, sense of humor.

I especially loved his alphabet book.
