The parallels between the Panthers and Flames regular seasons is actually kind of funny.
Points:
Flames: 93 points - 16th
Panthers: 92 points - 17th
GF%:
Flames: 51.1% - 17th
Panthers: 51.4% - 16th
xGF%:
Flames: 55.1% - 3rd
Panthers: 53.5% - 8th
HDCF%:
Flames: 53.5% - 10th
Panthers: 54.4% - 4th
Shooting %:
Flames: 8.75% - 32nd
Panthers: 9.53% - 22nd
Save %:
Flames: .899 - 24th
Panthers: .896 - 19th
PDO:
Flames: .977 - 31st
Panthers: .991 - 25th
Both fan bases were pretty sick of their coaches, as fans thought Maurice was a big issue with the team in the regular season...
But now Florida snuck in with 92 points, had their PDO jump to 1.026 (2nd behind only Vegas) and are in the finals.
It's why lots of people still thought the Flames could do damage if they snuck in too...the underlying numbers support that they were better than their record indicated.

Main difference? Florida played their rookie goalie when their starter played like ass.
Sutter kept on playing our ass starter.....

I decided to dig into the stats after a few posts here and there about the eastern conference being way better than the western.
512 games played and east won 36 more.
Top 4 teams were from out east and 3 out of the bottom 4 were out west.
So I took the top 3 from east (Bos, Car, N.J) and added the number of wins vs west (65)
I then did the same but for the 3 worst teams (Ana, Chi, S.J) vs east (29)
The difference is 36, the exact number of wins east got more than west.
Conclusion? I have no idea!

We’ll never know - but the East has objectively stronger teams than the West.

Does it, though?
Or does the East have objectively easier schedule that allows objectively worse teams to perform objectively better in the standings

It’s pretty easy to believe what Bob is doing because he’s actually doing it. You just watch the games and see it, no belief required.
Nobody is struggling to heap praise on Bobrovsky. He’s playing lights out. It’s funny watching a couple of you freak out whenever any praise is placed on literally anyone else, though.
Tkachuk is also sitting 2nd in points out of all players in the playoffs, if we’re allowed to say that. The top Hurricanes sit 16th and 17th.

Ullmark was clearly dealing with some kind of physical impairment in game 6.
Swayman is not very good. I'm not convinced he's a true NHL starter.
Samsonov is a jekyll & hyde goalie, he had a couple of stinkers vs Tampa too.
Anderson had a .920 save % vs the Panthers and .927 in the playoffs as a whole; while a drop off not a huge one.
No doubt Tkachuk is on fire right now and having a playoff for the ages, but I'm interested to see if he and his linemates can keep having this kind of success vs the Knights.

Panthers are definitely rolling now though, 11-1 in their last 12? remarkable.

These cats have also won the last eight away games, just one loss on the road!

Any one else find it more impressive Tkachuk os performing at a top twir level for a coach who just dragged his name in the mud previously?
Is it a situation of " Haha ya, sorry man . Just doing my job, your actually awesome"

He's one of those players that coaches and players hate but love to have on their side so I don't really find it surprising at all. I'm sure if you asked him today if he would rather have Tkachuk (elite pest that plays two way hockey and cares about winning) or Scheifele (selfish, one dimensional) on his team the answer would be easy.

Crazy record. As much as it can be argued that they are riding an insanely hot goaltender and that their play doesn't justify their record, they could have lost 5 more games in the last two rounds and still be in the finals. It's not like they're speaking in.

If the West final goes six or seven games, do you think Florida cools off with days of not playing?

I really wonder what he Hurricanes offer was for Chucky?
End of the day I think Waddell/Tulsky are wishing they would have upped their offer to close that deal. I have read a lot about the lack of superstars on the Hurricanes since they were swept.

One of their biggest stars was injured too
People scoffed at Marner for Tkachuk suggestions (on the Leafs side) they would do that now 100%
Game is weird though, a month ago Bob was the worst contract in the league...who knows what next year brings.

Other teams and fans have always chronically underrated Flames players and from what I can gather have lowballed when Tre was in the chair.
Tkachuk was always worth a lot, even at his Flames heights. He brings a lot to the game and different aspects than most stars.
Vancouver was stupid for not drafting him, and the Blues and Canes were stupid for not paying up for him. Kyrou and a pick also would've been well worth it for St Louis.
I'm glad Treliving never bit on one of those pity packages.
