No one knows that he was high on pills, he was hosting the tourney, he could have been hungover or just plain tired.

Pain killers are a real problem for pro and semi pro athletes

I know some guys who were just semi-pro or even junior athletes that were hooked on the pain killers at one point.

Somebody else in the thread said it but there really does need to be more accountability for the teams and the doctors that are prescribing these things.

Nah. Back in my party days, 7:15 AM would be about the time people would start heading home.

These sorts of responses strike me as particularly callous. Tiger Woods is going to be just fine, but his net wroth does not in any way diminish what it cost him to become one of the best at his craft. He arguably sacrificed his childhood, his marriage, a significant portion of his family life—to say nothing for the physical punishment and pain he has endured. These are not things that are easily compensated for by substantial wealth.

I am not a golf fan, but I was pretty captivated by Woods's dominance, and also by his really impressive comeback a couple years ago. It will be sad if he never plays again.

I get your point but I think one of his other addictions cost him his marriage.

Maybe it's callous, but no more callous than exactly zero people caring about all the people we actually know who sell their physical health for a pittance just to pay their bills to keep our world turning. If Tiger's job was ruining his health he had the means to stop at any time, so his wealth is absolutely relevant.

He also had the means to employ nutritionists, physiotherapists, doctors, and trainers, and also the money to take however much time off he needed to get well. The guy who jackhammered my old concrete patio, then spread gravel, then poured a new pad at my house last year didn't have those options. He had/has to stay in the grind until his body gives out and he'll potentially retire infirm, with limited opportunities to enjoy life, and without the cushion money provides. That's sad. Tiger pushing his luck by ignoring physical problems and exacerbating them by continuing on despite injuries is just foolish. It's not sad. And if he wrecked his car in a single-vehicle accident due to drugs, it's especially not sad; it's maddening.

They are a big problem across all aspects of society. Too many people get dependent on pain killers as a result of chronic issues or car accidents etc and it has destroyed many people and families. Athletes, pro or semi pro, are probably a relatively small market for the industry.

Directly, yes. But Woods's entire upbringing was so ####ed up that I think it laid the groundwork for who he became as an adult. It doesn't exonerate him, but I think it explains a lot.

Reports are that he has severe leg injuries, but nothing life-threatening. There is probably a good chance he never golfs again.

The same report said that they do not belief alcohol was a factor, but didn't rule out other substances.

Not saying it's not likely due to drugs (very likely: history of DUI, history of perscription pain killer abuse, history of dangerous driving, stress inducing events i.e. results of MRI likely occurred within last 24 hours...)

but respectfully, this video doesn't show anything really. I just see a tired guy taking an interview. He sounded pretty normal to me, a little subdued but frankly sounded like any one of his interviews from the last 10 years.

Might be time for Tiger to trade in the drivers license for a personal driver.

It's possible he's tired. But given his history and that he is going to be out for months after more back surgery (before the crash today), you'd be getting negative odds on this being drugs. Slurring words and very bloodshot eyes are usually not just fatigue.

I always got the sense with Wood's that he has no clue what else to do, that his life was always just Golf and then filling in time until he played more Golf

Seemed like he was finding a bit of a calling in his kids and teaching them golf.
