I feel bad for Baertschi because of the concussion problems. Also liked that a year or two ago he mentioned he could have handled things better in Calgary ... something about maturity / growing up etc.

But hate to see his career get waffled so badly.

This one makes the Lazar for Formenton deal bearable.

Out of that crop, Nic Petan seems to be the most interesting. I watched a leafs preseason game vs habs if i recall. He was solid.....small but great at coming up with the puck along the boards. Took pucks to the net rather than outside. Decent speed. Low center of gravity and seemed strong. Got some quality shots. Picked up a couple of assists. It's one game i know, but he really stuck out. Point per game guy in AHL.

Why are the Oilers putting one of their stud second liners on waivers?

Quine is on waivers. Sprong on waivers is another potential high skill high reward player

It's just very odd that the Canucks chose to keep all of Tim Schaller, Jay Beagle, Jake Virtanen, and Loui Eriksson over Sven. Very strange.

The Canucks are really not in cap hell at all, they have 3M to put on the IR.

That's a really strange decision. He's had a bunch of concussion issues but looking at HockeyDB, still seems to be a ~40pt pace sort of player. Seems like they have a bunch of worse players that they could waive before him.

Marko Dano is a guy who seemed to have all the potential in the world but just never managed to translate it... Maybe worth a shot for a team with weak depth.

If Management/Peters are not sold on Kylington playing full time then a player like Christian Djoos seems like a logical waiver wire pick up to fill that 6/7 hole instead of Amac.

Well, it turns out that I was very wrong about Baertschi. The concussions didn't help, but there a ton of highly skilled players out there that are not suited to the NHL style game and he appears to be one of them.

Definitely some interesting names on this list. Hickey is another name that makes you wonder if a team looking for depth might consider. Had a big dropoff in production last season going from 25 points in 69 games to 4 points in 40. $2.5M per season probably eliminates him from the Oilers consideration.

I have seen this sentiment on Reddit in the last month.

That Marcus Pettersson-Daniel Sprong trade already looks much worse for the Ducks... surprised Sprong is on waivers, though. The Ducks don't have a ton of good forwards as it is.

Like Sven, he's one of those highly-regarded players from the early 2010s Portland Winterhawks who have been disappointments at the NHL level (also Rattie, Pouliot, Wotherspoon).

Caggulia for Manning was equally bad, or worse.

Skill wise yes, but his $1.25 mil cap hit probably makes it unlikely the Flames put in a claim.

I can see the Oilers picking up a player if they are sending Gagner down to the farm. If they pick up a Sprong or Ho-Sang they still get over a million of extra cap space.

I thought the same about Domingue. Maybe a team has a better feel of how their goalies look at this point before the season than when Domingue was waived though...

Beagle is a decent penalty killer. Virtanen is their own first rounder so the org has more invested in him. Loui Eriksson likely gets the veteran's benefit of the doubt. Demoting Schaller only saves them a few hundred thousand dollars in cap space. Not nearly enough to get the Canucks under the cap.
