Flames Flames sign Tkachuk (3 yrs, $7 mil AAV)

Strickland is based in St. Louis and has quite a few connections to NHLers from the area

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
Things are picking up between the Calgary #Flames and Matthew Tkachuk. Wouldn’t be surprised if a deal were to get done as soon as today. #NHL

upd:

Ryan Leslie @SNryanleslie
Correction: it’s early here. 3 year deal at 7 mil per. Which would not make him the highest paid flame of all time. My apologies.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
$7M AAV for Tkachuk.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
$9 mil in 3rd year.

Looks like it has been agreed to in principle

Ryan Leslie @SNryanleslie
Lots of ground covered between Tkachuk & Flames. This deal is moving towards completion. Expect it today.

Given that we haven’t made a trade, have to think this is likely a bridge.

Get ‘er done, and get Chucky into the lineup on Saturday.

Guess now we hear if it's a bridge or not. Does a Derek Ryan injury open up some cap to start the season?

Dean Molberg @960boomer
Hearing much the same as @andystrickland that the #Flames and Matthew Tkachuk are closing in on a deal. It's been a productive 24 hours and both sides want it done. Things can go sideways, but I'm told the two sides are close.

Dean Molberg @960boomer
If I had to guess, I'd say it's likely a 3 year bridge deal similar to Brayden Point as opposed to a long term contract.

Sounds like it should be a three year bridge deal around the same as Point.

THe parameters are fairly well defined for MT on a three year contract. Higher than Boeser and lower than Point.

That leaves him somewhere in the 6.something range and shouldn't be a big issue to just get it done.

Molberg now reporting deal is done on 960 and it is a 3 year deal

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
The word on CAL and Matthew Tkachuk is not quite done, but getting there. Belief is bridge deal somewhere around $7M

So lets say it's the exact contract that Point signed. Would flames have to make atrade to fit it in?

I think it will be a bit lower but going with extreme case.

Nope, 6.75M fits no issue.

That means AAV is above 7.

So Point gets a cheaper deal because of the Tampa tax break.

Good news, with a little bit of pre season left to get the rust off.

Interesting to see the actual breakdown, will there be a massive 9m salary in yr 3 and lots of signing bonuses?
