Wow. Can't believe Mangiapane actually thinks missing training camp in what might be one of the most important development years of his career is a good move. Someone's giving this kid some really bad advice.

I sure hope the captain isn't the one giving him bad advice.

Team veteran vs team rookie. In the past did they not mix the teams to make them somewhat even?
Or maybe I'm just thinking of the split squad exhibitions games.

I'm pretty sure the rosters for the preseason games will still be the usual mix of vets and prospects/PTOs, if for no other reason than the need to hit the 8 "veteran" requirement.
By my count, Froese, Davidson, Gryba, and Pelletier are the only players on Team Otto that meet the minimum requirements for the preseason veteran rule. They will need to bolster the roster will at least a few players from the other half for the game in Victoria.

Of course you could. Is there a tongue in cheek font I can use or something?

Yes I think there is some confusion. Otto and Murzyn groups are sticking together as individual groups through the first few days of the training sessions and scrimmages here before the exhibition games and cuts begin.
When it comes to actual game roster for Sept 16 and beyond, it is a whole different matter, as evidenced by the change to the "game group 1 and 2" labels on the schedule for the two groups on Sept 16.

It's a bit much for my liking too.
I hope we don't take another player coming directly out of that team for another decade after this.
Unless its a kid with upside still.

Interesting Matty Gaudreau is not going to be at training camp. Could have easily created a moment for the Gaudreau family and some PR stories with both brothers playing in a preseason game together.

This kinda has me believing that R.Andersson still has the chance to win top pairing with Gio bumping Brodie down to the 3rd pairing on the left side with Stone or someone new on the right.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Potential RFA absences for Tkachuk and Mangiapane create some havoc for CGY. Gaudreau-Monahan is a fixture and Lindholm could resume his role there but there’s been some talk, if Tkachuk and Mangiapane sign, Lindholm may get some time as a centre.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Bennett could be a swing man who fills holes on either of the first or second lines in the early going. Sounds like Lucic and Ryan could be two-thirds of a third line and expect a growing role for youngsters Dube and (if he signs) Mangiapane.
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames GM Brad Treliving addressing the media prior to training camp. Says it’s a healthy team, other than Juuso Valimaki.
Valimaki is month-to-month with his knee injury.
Kristen Anderson
@KdotAnderson
Good morning from WinSport where #Flames GM Brad Treliving immediately addressed the Tkachuk/Mangiapane absences. Obviously he wants both here. When asked about Marner’s contract acting as the first dominoe: ”Everyone has their own individual situations.”

Any chance of a camp scrimmage? There's usually been one in the training camp schedule in previous years isn't there? I know I've been to a couple.

I really wonder what it is that Mangiapane is holding out for, as I don't think missing training camp in his position is great at all. Considering what's reasonable for Mangiapane, the 2-way makes the most sense to me - but is that more poisonous than missing camp?
Seeing the roster together, it looks even worse for Eatbreat. Every day a player like DSP, Rinaldo, Quine, Dube, Phillips, Gawdin, Ruzicka and Pospisil earn a little more confidence in the coach they're encroaching on the ice time he saw last year. Other fits start to develop and he not only loses his spot on the roster but any negotiating leverage he thought he had.
Unless he's confident that what he showed in the NHL so far will be difficult to replace, I just don't get it... it's really odd.

I'd wager that AM wants a 1 way deal and a 1 way only and that it is THE reason he isnt signed yet.
And man is there a lot of nastiness and snarl on Team Otto....good.

Doesn't AM need to clear waivers? Would he pass through?
Any deal now is essentially a 1-way. He'd have to pass through waivers twice - once out and once in - for the Flames to get him to Stockton, no?
