Still looking for a nicer practice amp combination as well to go with my 2007 Eric Johnson strat (got a used, slightly dinged one via bargain on Ebay 10 years ago, it's way too expensive a guitar to buy today).
Practice amp? That thing deserves shiny old Twin Reverb.

It was literally a case of a guitar newbie seeing something flashy and somehow winning a bargain auction on ebay 10 years ago and buying it but never having the appropriate gear to match the level of quality. For the past 10 years, I've only had a dinky solid state 10w fender practice amp!

I'm totally up for suggestions on what to match up with it. I was thinking of checking out some pawn shops for their amps.

Find something old, tubey, and Fender. Really.

About 25 years ago, I found a 1964 50 watt Bassman head for $200. Two channels, tone, and presence (aka how much do you want to cut your head off) controls. I bridge the 2 channels and crank everything else, except the presence control is at about 50%. I don't need to touch anything but the controls on the guitar.
It's the LOUDEST 50 watts I've ever heard in my life. The tone is so rich, and so beautiful. I built my own custom speaker cabinet, with a 30 watt 15" and a 120 watt 12". The 15 runs hot, the 12 runs cold. I can run either individually or both at the same time. The 2 speakers create a gorgeous natural chorus effect and a TON of bottom end... think the intro chords from Mary Jane's Last Dance.
Controlling feedback is almost effortless. Other folks often use some sort of overdrive pedal with the more powerful Fender amps, but even the ####ty old pickups on my '68 Fender Mustang can overdrive this amp.

If only I could get 10,000 people in the practice room...

Don't be afraid to go small with your amp, a 15W tube amp can keep up with a drummer and shows always have PAs that can mic it (it's not uncommon for touring guitarists to have giant speaker cabinets on stage, but are actually plugged into a small amp in isolation box backstage). A 15W amp working it's butt off is going to sound a lot better than a 100W that is barely trying. Digital amps will give you a lot of bang for your buck too, there's always some Line 6 Spiders on Kijiji for under $200.

I have a 30W tube amp (Mesa F30) and that has seemed like too much. If I ever got another amp head, I'd get a small Friedman head @ 20W. Friedman amps are easily the best amps I've heard or used, goddamn I want one (Friedman made a name for himself by hot-rodding Marshalls for superstars in the 80s, the amps he makes now are basically perfected Marshalls).

Today, I watched a documentary about Jeff Beck: "The Jeff Beck Story - Still On The Run".

Most people that appreciate and love rock music know his name, of course. What I didn't know was how much he is revered among the rock guitar icons. Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton – all of them bow to Beck's talent and calling him the greatest rock guitarist since the 60's that nobody could ever come close to. What I also never really paid attention to was how much great collaborative work Beck did with other musicians and how many young musicians did he help along the way.

Overall, a really good film showing Beck's career developing from playing in the basement with Jimmy Page at the age of 13 (!) to Yardbirds' years to his work with Rod Stewart to jazz-rock years and so on until now, with no sentimental BS and irrelevant "juicy details" crap. Lots of great takes too. I will definitely re-listen to his music.

Here's the link to a trailer:
