It's back! Everyone's second-favourite Cup that starts with a "S!"
Spengler Cup is back!
After a two year hiatus, once again Canadians will gather 'round the TV to watch Canada's best and brightest has-beens compete for glory.

* The NFL's "Super Cup" being a distant third...

I always like looking at the TC roster just to see the names of guys who were perhaps former “stars” of the world junior teams - like Chris Didemeneco (sp)
I find the games hard to watch sometimes because of the game times locally

Hahaha I just scrolled the article without my glasses on and quick went to get them when I though the Team roster included Daniel Brière, Ray Whitney, Scott Niedermayer and Shane Doan for a moment. I was excited for a 45+ tournament for a brief moment.

Saw Josh Jooris playing for the not Davos Swiss team this morning. And a few names on team Canada.

Spengler Cup is really under rated. Great hockey. Always takes a back seat to the world juniors though.

Heh...Americans, including myself, really don't have too much interest in international competitions, except for the Olympics (which I personally despise). It is enough that we have our professional teams to cheer for, and, for many Americans, their college teams (which, I never could get into, except, for the college I was attending, and only, at that time).
But, if the Spengler's your bag, more power to you, and enjoy! For me, I am following the death spiral seasons of the 'Hawks, Bulls, and Bears, and waiting for the 2nd day of MLB spring training, when the Cubs are officially eliminated! (It is tough being a Chicago native with a taste for their professional sports, sometimes.)

I just point out an American perspective, as I know there are a fair amount of Flames' fans on this board who are Americans....
For me, I just don't get the appetite for amateur sports, and, think that some amateur obsession is unhealthy, for instance, I HATE when ESPN and the like hype Little League sports, leading to cheating in such endeavors
In an actual example of why this fan hates some of these competitions, I can't help but feel that Kirby Dach's wrist injury, in the World Junior tournament, set back his development as a Blackhawk draft choice, and led the team to lose patience with him, and giving up on him as a top 2 C.

As a Calgary sports fan I share the sentiment expressed in Steve Goodman’s “A Dying Cubs Fan’s Last Request”.
Even when our teams seem to be doing well, they find a way to disappoint.

Yeah, I didn't take the comment as an attack on Foss, just a lamentation that Flames fans also know what fan misery means.
