Makes a massive difference. Unless you are a high first round talent like Logan Cooley or Adam Fantilli, its extremely hard to compete in the NCAA. My son was a 20 year old freshman for Denver last year and it was still a huge learning curve. One of his teammates this year who was drafted in the second round last year is learning that right now. Tough to develop playing on the fourth line or in the press box.

Coronato has been on the top line with Farrell all season. Both play with Laferriere on the #1 PP, otherwise Laferriere is on the 2nd line. Farrell and Lafferiere are having great college season's. I would love if they were Flames prospects. Their success does not diminish Coronato.

Many factors can affect linemate production. Look at Gaudreau and Lindholm last season - nearly 30 points separating the line mates. Like Lindholm, Coronato is the defensive conscious of that line, which frees up Farrell to take offensive chances. Also, when it was clear that Farrell was in the Hobey hunt, he was double and triple shifted to pad his stats. Finally, just my speculation, I think Coronato has had a nagging injury. His shot hasn't looked right at times. He played center most of the first half of the season, then for 6 games he was moved to RW. For the last 2 games he was moved to RW again. Guessing he has a hand or wrist injury that affects his ability to take faceoffs, and perhaps his shot as well. He is still over point/game, and is among the leaders in the nation for goal scoring.

to add one publications perspective, Coronato is ranked 23rd among all NHL prospects by THN; Sean Farrell is not in the top 100, and is the Habs 6th best prospect. Personally, I think Farrell is underrated by THN, but I do wonder if what he is doing in college translates to the NHL

Harvard beat Cornell 1-0 in OT. On the other side of the ECAC tournament, Colgate pulled off a huge upset, beating Quinnipiac 2-1 in double OT.

Quinnipiac was the second-ranked team in the country, and this was only their fourth loss all season. Colgate was ranked 28th overall going into the game.

Harvard will play Colgate tomorrow for the ECAC title. Colgate must win to get an invite to the NCAA Tournament. Harvard will be going either way.

Despite the low scoring, two very entertaining games.

Cornell is a big physical team. It was good to see Coronato deal with tight forecheck, heavy grinding style

If Cornell’s season is over they have quite a few interesting free agents in the Walker Duehr, Connor Mackey mould

Dylan Anhorn, a defenceman from St. Cloud State was at Flames Development Camp. Local kid too. Seen him mentioned in some of these FA lists.

EDIT: I guess he's been injured.

One of Harvard's regular centres and team captain, John Farinacci, was dealing with an injury and didn't play his first game until January. That was the primary (but probably not only) reason Harvard used Coronato as a centre for the first half.

Colgate wins 3-2, takes the ECAC title, and punches their ticket to the NCAA tournament.

The full list of 16 teams to be invited to the tournament and the schedule for the 4 regional qualifiers next weekend will be announced tomorrow at 6:30pm ET on ESPNU.

great weekend of college hockey; Minnesota vs. Michigan was an awesome game
Full marks to Colgate, knocking off the #2 and #6 teams in the country. They have some speedsters on their roster that gave Harvard and Quinnipiac some difficulty. Ross Mitton was a player I hadn't noticed before these last two games. His speed made him effective on the forecheck

Here are the teams that have clinched automatic berths, with their PairWise ranking in parentheses:

Atlantic: Canisius (41)
Big Ten: Michigan (4)
CCHA: Minnesota State (11)
ECAC: Colgate (25)
Hockey East: Boston University (5)
NCHC: St. Cloud State (6)

The top 10 teams eligible for an at-large bid are:

Minnesota (1)
Quinnipiac (2)
Denver (3)
Harvard (7)
Penn State (8)
Ohio State (9)
Michigan Tech (10)
Western Michigan (12)
Cornell (13)
Merrimack (14)

Harvard vs. OSU -- Friday @ Noon MT in Bridgeport, CT.

If they win, their next game will be Sunday @ 2:00pm MT.

If they win that, it's on to the Frozen Four, starting April 6 in Tampa.

----------

If they lose either game next week, the Coronato signing watch will begin.

If you have the timeshift channels on Telus, it looks like there might be some Coronato love on the local Boston CBS News tonight...

38:30 Chris Johnston sounds pretty confident that Coronato will sign with Calgary
