Flames with a shortage of young NHL ready dmen, and an abundance of LH left-wings, yet some of you are suggesting we trade Valimaki for DeBrusk. Huh??

I am not opposed to trading Monahan for another good player, if it makes the team better. I just don't understand this animosity towards Monahan. He is a finisher, who is struggling with confidence after a complicated surgery. He is accepting his role and demotion with the right attitude and without bitterness. Give him some time.

The problem is he has been struggling with confidence for almost 3 seasons now. At some point, the player just doesn't have it anymore. It's unfortunate but these numbers are very similar to how other guys have dropped off in the past. His pace is basically dropping off by 10 points every season for the past few seasons.

2018-19: 86 point pace over 82 games
2019-20: 56 point pace over 82 games
2020-21: 46 point pace over 82 games
2021-22: 37 point pace over 82 games

At $6.3 MM - there needs to be more offensive production. I am okay with finding the right deal but don't necessarily agree he will bounce back to a top line player (or even top 6).

Yeah, not in a rush to get Monahan out the door for the first guy available.

He has been and was injured with off-season surgery all of these years though, so I think we still need to give a bit more time. It is a 'time is running out soon' scenario though.

I would do Monahan and Pitlick for Debrusk and Studnicka (who can play RW, is NHL ready, and is one of the Bruins better prospects at around Ruzicka+ level). That is miles more fair than the Monahan Must Go talk.

Third line Debrusk - Dube - Studnicka.

Monahan and Pitlick for DeBrusk and another Ruzicka? And then put that "another Ruzicka" on the 3rd line, when the original Ruzicka can't even make NHL as a 13th F?

that is a downgrade from the 3rd line that we currently have

Maybe I downplayed Studnicka a little, although I did add a "+" to Ruzicka.

Studnicka is Hockey Baby Jesus and plays with one hand tied behind his back, wearing a patch over one eye, in order to make it easier on the rest of the league. I'd say he's a little lesser prospect than Pelletier, and is a RH RW/C.

Dube is much more effective at centre, and Studnicka is an upgrade on Pitlick. I think that the drop from Monahan to Debrusk makes the overall trade a wash in terms of on-ice ability. If there is a benefit, it would be in the members of that line getting better year over year.

This is a change of scenery trade proposal for all four players. A four-fecta.

Dreger says more than 12 teams have checked in on DeBrusk.

Teams he named as having interest:
New York Rangers
Vancouver
maybe Montreal
maybe Calgary
certainly Arizona
and in the past when DeBrusk's name has come up in trade rumors, St. Louis has been at the top of the list

I wonder if Kypreos actually heard the Flames are “in on it” or he just assumed so since every player who’s been “available” the Flames have “been in on”, and yet nothing has happened for about 10-15 (likely more) of these players now.

We get it, Brad makes calls, loves to kick tires. He won’t pull the trigger on this.

Anyone else imagine Kevin Lowe bursting into Ken Hollands office, all out of breath, saying "Louie says [breath] that [breath] Jake [breath]... Jake has what it takes to play Left Wing with Draisaital" while Ken Holland looks at whoever else is in his office with him with disbelief? It's the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the thread.

Flames have a straight logjam at LW. DeBrusk isnt a fit unless the know who signs or who goes at the end of the season already.

Since when do we care when a bottom 6 player on some random team asks for a trade? Hope we dont trade any serious asset for him. Maybe a 4th rounder.

This deal isn’t happening. While I would love to see him on the 3rd line with Monahan and Dube. Who is getting traded then. Valamaki should be in the minors. Pitlick is a perfect rotational 4th liner. We don’t have the cap space nor is he worth much at this point. If he was a right shot RW. Than maybe there is some real interest.

They were talking on the Fan this afternoon about a second round pick and a prospect for DeBrusk. The Flames may have cap issues though with 3 of their top players needing new contracts. Not sure how that would all work out though.
