He lives there rent free but he's a smart guy so he's thinking about the future. When he retires he wants a place he OWNS not just live there rent free.
Plus it's an investment. Toronto real estate market is hot now so what would you do: Free rent or take out a mortgage?

Sorry but that is simply incorrect. It rarely gets brought up and it's certainly something I never think about. Also I'm not clear on why a Stanley Cup winning goal not counting would remind you of Leafs fans getting up in arms over a minor incident in a regular season game as the scale of one event doesn't remotely compare to the other.

They have also never won more than 8 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. All of those cups* of theirs were won in 2 rounds.

Well, that is just not true. Since the institution of four rounds of seven to the playoff format Toronto won 11 playoff games in 1993, 9 in 1994 and in 1999, and 10 in 2002.

1999 was just dumb luck and a conspiracy by the league to try and gift the Leafs a cup, and they still failed miserably.
The other years that you mentioned were only made possible because they came on the backs of ex Calgary Flames players - either Gilmour or Roberts. Without them, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs.
This season, without Brodie, the Leafs would be looking for their first win of the season. The only reason that the Leafs are ever relevant is due to a Calgary Flames alumni. I love Brodie, and still think of him as one of the league's better defencemen, but he isn't in the same tier as Gilmour or Roberts, and thus the Leafs will continue to be no good this season.
