Last I checked businesses were allowed to support any candidate publicly and/or privately and financially.

I must have missed that because I don't recall seeing the Flames publicly say anything about Bill Smith.

Even had they specifically endorsed a candidate, which they did not, that's still about as far from actual election interference as it gets.

I don't agree with how the Flames have run their arena negotiation 100% (I don't think anybody does) but this thread title and topic is mind-bottling for a Calgary Flames message board.

Flames fans cancelling their tickets over an election? Dont let the door hit your ass on the way out and have fun cheering for the Oilers!

yeah the audacity of fans of a sports franchise to not want their municipal government to pay for a new arena for a team they already support to the tune of thousands of dollars of their own disposable income every yer

As a privately owned enterprise, support is tepid because all profits go into the pockets of individuals....all of whom are wealthy beyond the imagination of 99% of the taxpayers being asked to help fund the arena.

I like the Packers' model, it's also quite common in Europe. Can that be done in the NHL? There was an actual Bundesliga team that resolved an arena dispute by selling shares in the team.

It works.....there.

That will be the only place you will see it happen in the NFL however, as the rules stipulated by the league require at least one singular owner have at least 33% ownership in any single franchise. The only reason the Packers are allowed to do it is that they started that way 80 years ago and it was grandfathered into the league constitution.
