All I can get

I'm good with that.
Smart, savvy defenceman. Holds it together on the back end. A stabilizing team leader.
All in on the Hammer. What's not to like?

I’ve said it numerous times, they are playing him and Brodie off each other because both want to be here long term and there is only room for one.
Treliving was after Hamonic for years and gave up a lot to get him. He’s not desperate to trade him

Taking a while to get to 5000

Its the smarter choice up front. Cheaper, natural RHS. Grittier. Plus they paid a lot to get him. Curious what the extension will look like.

Depends on the cost and term. Seems like a standout human being but I hope the Flames aren't placing too much value in that. It's a young man's game now and I think any GM should be wary of signing non-elite players into their mid 30s. Solid, solid player but if/when he loses a step he won't be very effective. Most I'd want to see is a shade under 5m for 5 or less years, preferably less.

I wonder if Hamonic would take a long term deal at a team friendly cap-hit to gain some level of NMC to ensure he gets to stay close to home if the team and the player do part ways.
I love Travis Hamonic on this team. He's a player and a person I love cheering for.

Looking at some comparables, in the range of $5.5M AAV over 6/7 years seems pretty reasonable for Hamonic.
Would love him back, don't know why the Flames brass were considering trading him away in the first place.

I think neo45 is right. The Flames know they have to move one of their D to A) maximize assets, and B) make room for the kids to play.
Treliving likely looked into moving everyone and Brodie or Hamonic makes the most sense for multiple reasons. I can see why trading Brodie and signing Hamonic helps the Flames in the long run.

We know Treliving doesn't like to give out NMCs at the best of times, I can't see him giving one out now with the expansion draft coming in a couple of years.
It's going to be a hard enough call with regards to who gets protected on the blue line without giving a NMC to Hamonic.

To me this says they tested the market for both guys and decided Brodie has more trade value. More cap coming off and I wouldn’t be surprised if he netted a much better return. He gets a lot of flak on here but the reality is that he’s a top-3/4 defenseman who can play on your top pairing with the right partner. Those are valuable.

Too much, too long imo. That takes him to 37, contracts like that should be reserved for elite players.

He is 28.....29 when next season starts.
6 years from now he will be 34.
I mean ideally you sign him to 5 years but i doubt they get him for that term unless the $$ is higher.
They will want a veteran guy going forward as Gio only has a couple years left after this one.
I think its a 6 year deal...but really unsure on the dollars.

I would go as high as 6x 4.75m, but the last 2 years would scare me. If he loses a step you're looking at a 5/6 dman imo.
And I am talking about how old he will be when his extension kicks in,

Thank goodness.
Don't go above 6 years, $5 million, and I'll be happy as a clam. Love having Hamonic around.

He's been getting $4.87M in salary the last 3 seasons and next year. The first few years on his next contract will be in the $6M range. There is no way we get him for $4.75AAV long term. That's lower than Hanifin's RFA contract.
If we start him off at say, $6.25M and decrease to $4M over the life of his contract, that gets us in the $5.5M AAV range which is imo fair for him. I mean, if we can get him for $4.75M AAV long term, all praise to be Treliving - but I can't see that happening.

We gave up a ton to get Hamonic. But that is a sunk cost now and should not factor into any decision.
