Monahan will be the Flames' 2nd leading scorer, Valimaki will be in the top 2 D pairs by the end of the season, Zary will make the team out of training camp, and the Flames will trade for a veteran backup goalie at the trade deadline.

McDavid asks for a trade on July 2nd, 2022.

I don’t dare to dream of such a wonderful place. The only thing that could make it better is if they had to pay someone else to not play or coach for them.

This is my greatest fear. I can live with the Flames being in the bottom 5 teams, which is my ####ty hot take. But the Oilers winning would destroy me. Unfortunately, no matter how deficient the Oilers are, McDavid is still entering his peak years.

Hot takes:

1. Flames are a bottom 5 lottery team (sorry to be a downer).
2. Treliving is removed as GM in December.
3. Winnipeg and Tampa in the finals.
4. Canucks make the playoffs.
5. No Eichel deal until the trade deadline.

I guess those are more of predictions. Same sort of thing.

I’ll double down on the glory of this prediction. The flames play the oilers on March 26th. That will be the game where the flames guarantee a playoff spot with a win and the oilers are officially eliminated from getting a playoff spot with a regulation loss. The flames beat the oilers 3-2. Lucic scores the game winner on Smith when he goes out to play the puck… with 10 seconds left in regulation.

I find many of these "hot" to be rather luke warm.
Hot takes:
- Someone other than Connor McDavid wins the scoring title
- The Flames surprise many and finish 2nd in the division
- Johnny Gaudreau publically asks everyone to start referring to him as "John Gaudreau" moving forward
- Las Vegas finishes third in the division and is eliminated in the first round
- Cale Makar wins both the Norris and Hart

I like the prediction some have made that Vegas under-achieves in the regular season. I think this could happen. They have been reckless with their trades since day one and I think it’s just a matter of time before it catches up to them. I could see their gamble on kicking fleury out of town backfiring on them to start and having one of those seasons where everything goes wrong.

That seems more in the likely to happen column than the hot take column.

The hot take thread that is actually a bold prediction thread that always includes predictions that are completely plausible and no stretch at all is the worst yearly thread we have.

That's my hot take. My bold prediction is that everyone agrees with me because I'm extremely popular and we collectively decide never to have this thread again.

It’s a flames’ home game too. After Lucic scores, the flames call a time out just to troll the oilers for a little bit longer… the jumbotron focusses on the oilers’ bench and a song starts playing in the dome… “Closing time!”

Huh, I guess real hot takes huh?

Monahan wins the Selke, Vegas misses the playoffs, Ducks somehow sneak in as a wildcard and make it to the conference finals on the back of Gibson.

Lindholm scores 40 and wins his first Selke.
Coleman scores 20
Markstrom and Vladar each win 20 games
Flames make playoffs and make it to conference final.
Sutter wins Jack Adam's
Tre Trades for and gets Brady Tkachuk and he scores 30
Tanev is the new Captain for the Flames

Edmonton loses its first 20 games and McSaviour demands a trade as he now completely resembles William H Macey and walks around Edmonton asking "where's the beef".

Eichel sits the entire season and isn't dealt from the Sabres

Tom Wilson ends up injured trying to injure someone and is out for the season.

Evander Kane gets banned from the NHL for gambling throwing games and for just being an all around great guy and poster boy for the NHL. NOT!!!

The Kraken make the playoffs in their inaugural season but bow out in the second round.

John Tortorella ends up replacing whatshisnuts in Edmonton as head coach.

Covids 4th wave starts the NHL season in the bubble and finishes with fans allowed to attend.

Monkey sprout wings and fly out someone's arse....anyone's arse just not mine if any of this happens.

I actually think Makar can actually do that and maybe even a Conn Smythe to boot. He has another gear as scary as that sounds.
