The league is getting input from their owners.
With the general fear level of the Omicron spread raised in Canada there is a huge risk that the media and politicians will point at the NHL for playing any games and swamping the hospitals.

Pro sports in Canada have to operate under pure chaos.
Seems unsustainable

Looks like the Oilers game was postponed until the weekend. I assume this game is still a go? They'll just travel to Calgary first and then Edmonton after

I would guess..... low.
Edwards was probably getting cranky about it, hence the walking over a measly 10-14 million on the arena.

The last Flames home game sure seemed to be a superspreader.
What should be done is rapid testing at the gates. PITA, but the only way to proceed as we try slow down the pace of everyone being inevitably infected.
Or just remove the unvaccinated from hospitals to make room when they fill up, and the rest of us live normally without the burden on our shoulders to sacrifice in order to protect the healthcare system from the choices of the unvaccinated.
The riots would make for great TV, too.

Icu isnt at capacity despite having more beds cut. Amazing with our low population density and high vax rates that we are more restricted in Canada now than the USA...or China lol. Guess our "free" healthcare system isn't so great after all.

This is a big part of it. US has private healthcare and the hospitals are all for filling up beds (much more so at least).

Me either. I imagine with my luck they will ask me to give up my Vegas or Vancouver tickets. I am guessing they will have plenty of volunteers happy to get rid of the Ottawa game.

The only way it makes remote sense to me for anyone to pay and attend is if the team gives away good swag for everyone in attendance. Nice shirts, hoodie’s, hats, flags, touque, jersey, etc. STH should get a very nice piece of swag to justify attending a game in such an uncomfortable atmosphere yet paying full price. Most of these soft goods have a lot of margin so it is very doable.

You'd have to give me some pretty sweet swag to get me to attend a game with no beer.
Legit, STH's are getting swindled

Hospitals probably just implement a 'surge' charge like Uber.

I thought that was a short story. In this case what's the worse fate. Getting a refund or paying money to watch the Senators?

Are the restaurants open? (Duttons, King Club, Etc.).
I read no food or drink in the seats and concourse or is it a blanket ban for the whole Saddledome?

No food and drink consumption in seated audience settings or during intermissions in facilities with 500+ attendees.- Restaurants that are physically separate from audience seating are permitted to operate.
- Liquor and operating hour limits apply; food and beverages must be provided by table service.

Based on that, the restaurants should be able to be open. Who knows if they will be?

China actually has areas under strict do not leave home orders for areas with the military patrolling to enforce covid restrictions.
So not a great example....
