Yeah, I was surprised at a 're-make' of Repo Man. Thats not really...its not really that kind of movie.

I'm going with Kontroll (2003) and Drive (2011). I considered Pan's Labyrinth (2006) and Intacto (2001), either of which would also work.
Another thought I had was maybe to do a Terry Gilliam double-header with Brazil and 12 Monkeys but I think that would result in people going nuts before the end of the second feature and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad outcome in this hypothetical.

People would definitely go nuts lol.

Wanted to think of a good Wachowskis candidate to pair with the first Matrix. I defaulted to V for Vendetta, but wanted to jog my memory a bit, so off I went to IMDB...
Am I the only one that didn't know the Wachowski Brothers are now the Wachowski Sisters? (Happy for them obviously, just had no idea.)
At any rate, my original feeling was correct. The Matrix + V for Vendetta (maybe Bound as a third feature once the kids are in bed )

Impressed you somehow managed to avoid the fact they are now sisters. I'm concerned both are not working on the Matrix sequel, after watching various making of vids it was very clear the driving force was both of them as a kind of hive mind.
Natalie Portman is generally not a great actress but she was good in V.

I really dont know what to expect, because while you're correct, they've also worked together as a 'hive mind' in your terms, on some real stinkers since then.
The Wachowskis seem like there are no half-measures or happy mediums. Their films are either brilliant or hot garbage.

And Portman in a lot of ways reminds me of Keanu Reeves.
Excellent actors when they chose roles that suit their talents and play to their strengths, but not overly versatile in terms of range.

She was pretty good in Black Swan. I would say she's average or better. Put her in a Star Wars or superhero movie and she's not going to elevate poor writing but she can pull off a role in a quality movie. Keanu Reeves is best in movies where action takes precedence over dialogue.

Speed Racer wasn't terrible.
Their movie plots are basically soylent green. Cloud Atlas was so awful I still vividly remember it.

Thought she was great in Black Swan, about her only role where I forgot it was Natalie Portman on screen.

Well, like, thats just like, your opinion man....
'Jupiter Ascending' however was practically a crime. It is understood that it is played on a loop for inmates at Guantanamo.

Portman is one of the few actors that successfully transitioned from child star to adult actor, she should get some credit for that as well

I seem to remember Portman being pretty good in Garden State but I haven't seen that movie in forever.

The Professional is still by far her best performance, and she was maybe 11? Pretty nuts to be that good, that young.
I do find her odd in that she can be very good or very bad, not unlike Nic Cage.
