Big change in the latest models.

Its tracking about 25 miles further west than what it has been looking like.

BUT

Now it appears it will get a direct hit into Ft Meyers and then north to Tampa.

Read this as posted by FW earlier.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...limate-change/

All that being said, it could also weaken a good bit than where it had been heading. That is good for sure, but regardless this thing will cause catostrophic damage at some point.

A lot of talk is focused on the impact that the storm will have on Florida but it looks like the most severe parts of the hurricane will be passing over Varadero Cuba. This is a popular destination for Canadian and European tourists and I wonder if the resorts there will be essentially flattened by the storm?

Can someone share that interactive hurricane map tracking site again? There was one posted here a number of pages back that was really good.

The islands east of Puerto Rico are getting slammed again as we speak. Just awful.

As for Irma, it's just about to depart Cuba near Varadero, but is currently down to a category 3 with 125mph winds which is good to see. Though she supposedly will pick up strength again before hitting Florida.

Apparently it's called a Blowout Tide. Not sure what effect this will have on the storm though. This meteorologist seems to believe it's all on its way to Florida.

Interestingly, I'm watching the Bama game and hoping for a blowout for the Tide.

The blowout tide phenomenon would be particularly pronounced in the Bahamas since they have these large sand shelfs around the island. A little drop in tide goes out a long way there.

Update for anyone interested:

- The entire county is under curfew/lockdown as of 3pm today. Nobody is to be on the roads at all. This is to ensure that everyone is in a safe place ahead of the storm, and to stop potential looting.
- We are still in hospital since our discharge time fell just after the curfew. Nobody is allowed to leave the hospital at this point until Monday morning likely.
- It looks like we are only going to get a small portion of the force of this storm. For that we are incredibly thankful, but our hearts go out to those on the West coast of Florida.
- Momma and baby are both doing very well. We are calm and happy, and are just waiting to ride this storm out now.

I really feel for the keys people. There may not be anything left when they go home. I sincerely hope they all evacuated because the storm surge alone could potentially put the entire island under water.

Didn't a young pro surfer just die trying to ride some of Irma's waves? Thought I saw it on a headline somewhere a few minutes ago.

But we had a 3:00 curfew and had to get off the streets and settle in.

There was a surfer lost off of Boca Inlet and they suspended the search.

Also, the surf did get rough to the point that it certainly wasn't safe to let your dog run into the surf.

But yes, a surfer died off of Barbados.

There are lots of idiots taking selfies in Key West. Won't be long before someone gets killed.
