Gents, just got home from the game. Damn that was fun. We are legit. Someone tell me how great the "ref you suck" chant was on tv after that no call on Backs? Could you hear it? #### those refs. Super fun game to go to!
Not sure if it was just me, but I thought the crowd came across much louder and more engaged on tv than usual. It was great.
On a side note, how was that conclusive video evidence to overturn the goal on the offside. I didn't think it was enough to overturn the goal.
Yeah it was pretty close and given the fuzziness of the line and puck in the images we have seen I don't know how you could overturn a call either way. Similar to the Stanley Cup finals game one two years ago when I believe a Subban goal was called back with what appeared to be inconclusive evidence. That said maybe they have a higher resolution image that shows the line definition clearer. Replay certainly hasn't been kind to the Flames over the years for the most part.

It definitely wasn’t conclusive. The line is sort of blurry, due to being under an inch of ice. The puck’s edge was never completely out of that blurry part, in any frame when slowed down.
In an Oilers game last week, Conner McDavid had a goal in overtime which was more conclusively over the line than this, and was called NO GOAL.
That being said, if Backlund isn't staring at his laces he would easily have avoided that. Hopefully he is OK.
Watch the clip above again. Close game, late in the game, trying frantically to clear the puck out of his own zone, which he successfully did. Wasn't a 50/50 puck as some of you claim. Tenths of a second later leveled by a predatory hit. Dumba was the only one who could have avoided it. I didn't mind the hit and love when the Flames hit, but Dumba could see Backlund was in a vulnerable position and still hit him. You perform a predatory hit like that, get ready to be jumped.

Plus the camera on the blue line seems to be at a little bit of an angle (off to the right) which I think also skews things a little. i would be interested to see what made it conclusive.
Call me old school, but I always felt that if you level someone with a devastating hit, illegal or not, or causing injury or not, it is going to result in a fight. Good on Lomberg for sticking up for Backlund and doing his job. If you don't want to fight, don't make a huge hit. You don't have to try and kill a guy (again, illegal or 100% legal) in order to separate the puck from the player. If you do, then get ready to drop your mitts.

I agree with this in certain situations, like when the game is over and the puck is being cleared with 30 seconds left and your team is down by 2. No need to throw that type of hit even if it was borderline clean.
i think Dumba has to hit him. Imagine if our defenseman just did an 'OLE' down 2-0 and give up an empty net goal. Down 2-0 with 40 seconds left is still doable.
And Lomberg I believe got sent on to beat up Dumba, which is also fine.
