@BryanFuller

ANYONE ELSE MILDLY ANNOYED (enough to tweet about it) THAT THE #BohemianRapsody TRAILER FEATURES GAY/BI SUPERSTAR FREDDIE MERCURY FLIRTING WITH AND TWIRLING WITH A WOMAN BUT NO INDICATION OF HIS LOVE OF MEN?

Fuller slammed the trailer as "hetwashing", a term used when LGBT media is changed to make it more palatable to heterosexual audiences.

I have concerns too that the movie will be sanitized too much (May and Taylor) to portray Freddie's life honestly. Apparently the movie will end at Live Aid, and not deal with AIDS or his death.

The trailer does seem to give a glimpse at Freddie's wild 39th birthday party in Munich. I don't know if we will see the crazy album release party of Jazz in New Orleans.

I'm not sure who Mike Myers is supposed to be? A record company executive, or producer Roy Thomas Baker?

To carry over our conversation from the other thread:

I was referring to the choice of actor than the content. To be honest, I don't really know what was going on with why Cohen left the movie. He cites that he left mainly because the band wanted the last half of the movie to be about how the band carried on without Mercury. However, it looks like the final script ends before Mercury even dies.

I really wanted to see what Cohen would do as Freddie. I think he has more talent and depth than people realize, and he could have captured Freddie's opposing personalities.

Brian May might be my favorite guitar player of all time (Zappa rated him highly too), but I hope May should have realized that this movie has to be centered around Freddie.

I think either actor would have been good as Freddy.

As for the content, we’ve seen quite a few movies gloss over famous figures who’ve done some less than honourable or scandalous things. Or movies like the Doors that heavily fictionalize, more than usual, the events to the point that it’s bascially a complete fiction with real people’s names.

As long as the movie is good, i won’t care what they include from Mercury’s life.

Yeah it's a shame that it couldn't have worked out with Cohen as I feel he had the charisma to pull off that role.

I was surprised by that too. There is one very quick shot at about the 32 second mark. It's so fast (and Freddie has long hair and no moustache) that you could easily miss that it's actually a shot of two men.

His best friend was a woman, whom he left quite a fortune to. I think that may play a large part of the film, no?

Is this what society has come to now? Up in arms over the representation of sexual orientation in a two minute movie trailer? Two minutes out of a probable 120 minute film. This is so dumb.

I hope this movie does justice to Freddy and his legacy.

He met eyes with a girl in the trailer.

There was also a dude getting close to him at the piano.

Maybe Freddie Mercury was a nuanced person who wasn't always totally aware of or comfortable with his sexuality or something...

I didn't hear this cover before, from Suicide Squad soundtrack:

and Lake Street Dive:

Back in the 80s a band from Toronto called Klik used to come to Live Wire regularly, and they would play this song in full, including the operatic section.

Wasn't he bisexual?

Honestly not sure where he would say he landed when all was said and done, but I’m sure he had sex with women, especially in his early life.

I don’t know if that would necessarily categorize him as bisexual. Could have just been figuring out his sexuality.

Point is, I can’t believe people are reading into what is nothing more than eye meetings between characters that might not even be in the same scene together in a film trailer about a person who everyone knows was gay. Maybe that’s not the only thing the film wants to explore. He was also arguably the best frontman of all time for one of the most dynamic bands ever. That could be interesting too.

Queen occupies three of the top 20 spots on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart dated June 2, thanks to streaming and sales gains for the iconic band's catalog after the May 18 arrival of the first trailer for its upcoming biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

This will deeply satisfy my love for that period of their music. The Live Aid performance is the greatest live music show of all time and something I can’t envision ever being beat.

But still, I would have loved the rougher edges that Cohen would have brought with his vision.

Don't really have a strong opinion on a trailer, but if they end the story at Live Aid that really is shameful in my opinion.
