Be interesting to see if it's a straight salary deal or if there's a % of the cap component. If ever a guy was gonna get a % of the cap, it was Mahomes.

I think long term it's probably going to end up being a steal for the Chiefs as the QB scale keeps going up yearly. I think the present uncertainty due to COVID probably played into the Mahomes camp accepting a contract of this length although we will have to see how much is guaranteed as the years on an NFL contract aren't as important as the guarantees.

If they’re going 10 years you’d think at least 6 are guaranteed. He’s going to get 200 mil plus I’d wager.

Yeah you just had to figure if he was doing 10 years it had to be tied to the cap. Lots of guys are looking for short term deals now so they can hit the market when the next TV deal comes out. This mitigates most of that risk for Mahomes. I would guess it comes in the 18-20% range.

Very smart deal on both sides. Mahomes keeps getting paid what he ideally should be based upon the cap, and the Cheifs gets long term stability in keeping their superstar QB in the long run.

Half a billion dollars.
And he’s probably still underpaid.

I think the Chiefs franchise is only worth about 1.8 billion, one of the lowest valued ones in the entire league. Hope he stays healthy. Even last year he got pretty banged up early in the season and that 3 week break probably saved the Chiefs season. Happy to watch him as a Chief for this many years.

That Russell Wilson deal is looking pretty okay these days.

I heard a very interesting insider take on why the NFL season isn't going to happen. The NFLPA will require all personnel in contact with players to isolate themselves from society. The NFL is different than most sports, due to the large number of people on the sidelines and in contact with players. Hypothetically, take a team doctor, and most teams have several doctors on their sidelines. These guys aren't full time team drs, but they have their own medical practices and work with the teams on the side. These drs aren't willing to give up their practice for a full NFL season and live in the NFL bubble. I'm sure there are a lot of people involved with teams and the league that won't isolate. In most sports, referees work enough that they don't have other jobs, but as we all know Ed Hochuli was a lawyer in Phoenix, and they all have regular jobs. The league pays officials crap money, and there are how many officials in uniform every game? Plus all the ball boys, down marker guys, guys with giant orange mitts signaling TV timeouts... I don't see how the NFL can keep that many people quarantined. Soccer, you have 4 ball boys and 4 referees on the field, and that's about it.
