I was having a hell of a time with our garage door opener not working randomly.
Turned out to be the type of LED bulb that was in the motor housing. The frequency of the bulb must have been messing with the signal. Switched out bulbs, no more problems.

Thoughts on electric fireplace inserts?
Are they still tacky or do they make nice ones now?
We are coverting our chimney to something. I want a gas fireplace but my designer is encouraging me to consider electric to save a lot of money.

Are you sure you want a fireplace at all?
I’m not sure about resale value implications but we don’t use ours outside of Christmas. If forced to chose I’d go gas. If going electric you might as well just put a LCD TV on the Shaw fireplace channel.

We opted out of the gas fireplace as well and picked up one of these
Smart Fireplace
I just sent the one we got back as it was only kicking heat out of one vent, hopefully the next one is fully functioning but its really nice and I'll be flush mounting it into the wall at some point.

A tv with the fireplace channel on is better. Then you get fireplace stoking arm guy.
Maybe you need a new designer if the one you have prefers something imitation over a real thing.

Does the fireplace need to be functional or is it just for ambiance? Maybe keep the original set up, spruce it up a bit, and never use it. Or use the space for something else.

I like our electric insert. Built the mantle for it to insert into. We like it, the big thing is that the place doesn't become a sauna when people are over and the fireplace is on.

I've just got to the last stages of my fireplace/wall remodel. Quite like the look of the linear Napoleon fireplace. Lots of work with electrical and running conduits through. Did on wall klipsch speakers as it's a an exterior wall and was worried about in wall speakers.

Need to center the pot light now as it was centered to the old fireplace and going to replace the track lighting with something more modern.

Yikes, didn't realize I had these as thumbnails. Oh well.
I did the stonework myself. These are marble split face 6x24 tiles and the installation is actually fairly straight forward for a DYIer with a decent tile saw. I installed cement board to withstand the weight of the tile as they are pretty heavy.

What kind of wallboard is that? Looks like tile backer but I've never seen that brand.

Wow, good job! I wouldn't even be able to put the green tape up by myself.

Wall looks great. Mine looks almost identical except without the speakers (should have thought of that).
When I had the basement developed I insisted on the stone wall even though they kinda thought it was overkill. It turned out awesome, they did a great job, and the landing wall is stone too (same color to match) which makes it seem even nicer

We have a wet/dry sensor connected to SmartThings to monitor the water heater and it tripped last night after dinner. Very small leak currently happening.
What is everyone's experiences with tank vs tankless water heaters? Cost? I know there's an efficiency gain from tankless as it's on-demand heating, how do you find the heat response times?
