EliteProspects ranks Calgary's prospects at #26
Interesting ranking of Calgary's prospects, I must say. It's behind a paywall so I'll just give you the top 5.
Quote:
The Calgary Flames gave their prospect pool a much-needed shot in the arm at the 2020 NHL Draft.
Eight new prospects joined the organization; two from the first-round of the EliteProspects’ final ranking among them. Those selections were a step in the right direction for an organization whose foundation had started to show cracks from years of campaigning for the Stanley Cup.
|
1. Connor Zary
2. Dustin Wolf
3. Juuso Valimaki
4. Jeremie Poirier
5. Connor Mackey

Hey if Zary and Wolf end up better players than Valimaki, I’ll be pretty happy with the new #1C and #1G.
Kind of weird that a pool with a #1C and #1G in it is the ranked #26.

I always appreciate lists that don't just follow the norm, but I can't see any rationale for ranking Poirier over Pelletier.

They see Pelletier as being a heart and soul type player who doesn't possess any elite skills. They see Poirier as a player with tons of defensive issues but one who has elite level passing and puck movement skills.
EP has loved Poirier for sometime. They ranked him 26th overall in the draft. They call him an offenceman.

I'm not the biggest Pelletier fan in the world but imo he's definitely a better prospect than Jérémie Poirier.

Calgary never seems to get any kind of fair evaluation. There always seems to be someone's personal bias at play. Oh well, ranking doesn't matter.

When I watch him he reminds me a lot of Dube. Always engaged on the ice and an extremely gifted puck distributor. I think he has the potential to have some of the strongest defensive metrics in the league as an NHLer down the road while also scoring around 20 goals and 50 points a year.

Yeah that was the part that had me scratching my head. Maybe he confused the Flames for the Kings?
I guess in a sense, all the teams are campaigning for the Stanley Cup, every year.

I can't read behind the paywall, but were both Zary and Wolf mentioned in the article as projected to be #1s in their respective positions?

I believe the implication comes from ranking them higher than Valimaki, who appears to be a top pairing guy.

Well yeah but I'm not sure I see the potential for him to be a top-line star on a team. I view him as potentially posting very similar production as Mangiapane, maybe a little better, while playing a scrappier style like Dube and more geared towards playmaking. This past year, Mang was on pace for 21 goals and 18 assists in a full season while having some of the best defensive metrics in the league against extremely tough competition.

Tough to find a top line star in the mid 20s. Happens but rare.
If they get what you describe, that's a home run, or at least a stand up double.
