Morgan is the country singer who got replaced by Jack White. I’m not sure why he’s getting a second chance.

the episode in general (all thanks to Norm of course) featured digs at OJ both in the cold open and the weekend update
interestingly the weekend update (again this was 1996) featured a joke where the punchline was essentially everybody hates Donald Trump

This past Saturday, the repeat episode had Phil Hartman hosting as it was just before US Thanksgiving. It was the previous episode prior to Martin Short hosting in 1996 that also had a skit with the OJ trial. Tim Meadow's Thanksgiving song auditions was hilariousand so was The Joe Pesci show with Jim Breuer. Talk about turn back time, Rodney Dangerfield was on Weekend update.

gosh I miss Phil Hartman so much
episode was ok- I agree I really liked the Pesci show- it is interesting throughout the whole show there were a lot of jokes that just wouldn't fly (regarding lets just lazily say political correctness). some of which were on point and really funny and some just cringey. (alot of Michael Jackson jokes, a digital short and an appearance on the Pesci show)
never been a big fan of Bush (the band, not the president(s)-although them too- ) but I found their performance was pretty meh

Thoughts on the Bateman episode?
Nice to see Cecily back. Also noted that there were less calling on 'guest stars' with no Biden, Trump et al- nice change actually
the Pete Davidson/Eminem digital bit is getting a lot of attention, and I think rightfully. I liked it.
also a fairly typical SNL 'home for christmas' commercial/video with a pandemic year twist that was pretty cute

With Kate playing Rudy, I wondered who who be drunk Michigan witness. Cecily was great.
Can't wait to see Bruce this week.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Rudy's star witness was Cecily Strong's Drunk Girl at a party who you wish you didn't start a conversation with. In would be an insult to have anyone else portray her.

Decent episode that was dragged down a bit by a few weak sketches and a boring musical guest.
Weekend Update, Davidson's Eminem parody, and the Home for Christmas sketch were all great though.

Pete Davidson is becoming one of my favourite SNL performers. That Santa letter short was so warped and hilarious.

Pete has always been one of my favourites but I've also been a fan of his stand up. Outside of Weekend Update though I've given up with SNL. They had it best when they had recurring characters sketches and people who you associated with those characters. Plus hosts that are different and outside of what you would expect from them. I understand that this is all hard with the pandemic, but it's sad to see how far this has fallen.

Totally agree. The Update writing has been very sharp this year, and this week Che's Beaver/Waxing Moon joke got lost, but was really funny...as was the one about the 102 year old beating Covid twice, but not his car. He was been very, very good.
But every week, there are a bunch of just terrible sketches that make you wonder if even the writer thinks they are funny, or it's just about filling dead air. This week, the sleepover is the perfect example. Like who thinks that was going to get any sort of a laugh?
It's time to either tighten it up to 60 minutes, or just put the thing out of it's misery entirely.
And I am not tagging for spoilers....in this day and age, 72 hours post broadcast is all the spoiler time you get for episodic TV.

Nah, SNL has always been hit and miss, and they're not just gonna take it off the air just because they have a bad season. They've survived a lot worse than that over the years.
The two most recent seasons haven't been great overall, but they've still produced some fantastic and hilarious episodes. John Mulaney is always solid when he hosts. Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Adam Driver, and Matt Damon have all had great shows as well. The recent Bill Burr/Jack White episode was easily one of the best I've seen in a long time.

I’ve been an SNL fan for over 25 years and always will be. But I agree this season and last season something is missing. I don’t think it is the writing, as Che and Jost remain at the helm and have been a strong duo for a while, and are generally carrying the mail for the show as the WU hosts.
I think there is something missing in the cast. There are a lot of talented individuals but outside of a few pairs (Beck and Kyle for example) I don’t sense a lot of chemistry, energy, or teamwork. The whole is not greater than the sum right now.
And great observation about recurring characters. Keenan has a few, but otherwise I can’t say there is a solid recurring character right now that I get excited about.

Pete and Timothee have some chemistry. Like Timberlake and Fallon.
