Lindholm gets 25+ playing on the first line bank on it.

Are you a GM? How can you be so sure Fox would have had more value?

Ferland hasn't played tough for a couple years now.

First impressions are not good.
However, some good points brought up on here and Twitter that has me in a wait and see pattern.
Right now I believe Hamilton is the best player in the trade, but I think when things all shuffle out, Hanifin = Hamilton in the long run. Lindholm has a much higher and more dynamic ceiling than Ferland. And this trade has to indicate that Fox was going to be a long shot to sign. Even if he is a great prospect, his value is highly diminished in that case. Would rather have him included as a sweetener to get two solid pieces like Hanifin and Lindholm than either an unknown pick or another problem child.
Still not incredibly positive about this trade, but I am excited about how these 2 players will develop in the Flames system.

What is this physical presence Ferland supposedly offered us. It was very rarely seen.

Lindholm will become a fan favorite. Unless those people are hell bent on hating this trade for its entirety. He is going to help this team so much more than people think. It will show. I am so pumped.

So what's the deal now?
Is Brodie going back to the right side, or is he getting traded?
Or is Kulak getting pushed down the depth chart?

Pretty much my point. Was just relaying it from Tre's angle.

So what are realistic contracts we can expect for both these guys? What kind of space will the team have after they are signed? Will they target anyone else ufa wise?

Looking at their careers they have the same goals / game rate.
everyone here is stating such an exaggeration of ferlands goal scoring ability.
In the last 2 seasons ferland has: 36 goals, lindholm has 27 goals, the couple seasons before ferland had 6 goals in those 2 seasons. So let's not pretend it's a huge gap. Ferland has been beneficiary of playing with Monahan and Gaudreau due to lack of depth.
If people's stuck on this trade is the ferland/lindholm aspect.. then not trade the flames do would ever make anyone happy.

I maintain that Brodie was the dman to trade and not Hamilton, unless this was a two for one package but the Flames added a lot.

Everyone talking about Ferland and Fox, Flames had the best player in this deal in Hamilton, a known commodity. Instead of adding, Carolina should have thrown in a pick just for the fact we are trading for potential.

Hanifin is only 21, the same age as Andersson and Kylington, and he already has three years under his belt. That's very rare for a d-man. He has actually played 30 more games than anyone else from his draft (suck it, Connor).
The Flames now have 20% of the players drafted in the first round of the 2013 Draft (although, that might not be true by this time next week).

Hanifin-Hamonic is going to be a solid second pair. If Gio can get old Brodie back our D will be better next year. Lindholm will outscore Ferland. I hope Fox goes UFA anyway

Treliving needs to go back to Boston Pizza and run one of those. Not this team.
|
What the hell do people think Noah Hanifin is?
He is already an established top 4 defencemen in the NHL and he's younger than Hamilton and still has the potential to be better.
Hamilton is so incredibly overated by Flames fans its' insane.
I don't know what most of you were watching for the past 3 seasons with Hamilton. The guy is an absolute train wreck in his own end, so much so that two coaches have sacrificed Giordano to prop up Hamilton.
The lost offense from Hamilton will be made up by Giordano who will get to go back to being the offensive guy on the Brodie/Gio pairing.
Hanifan will solidify the Hamonic pairing, this will be a true shutdown pair with a hard nosed physical defender in Hamonic and a smooth skating mobile defender in Hanifan.
Kulak and Anderson will be in and out of the lineup with Stone.
As for Lindholm, he is a clear upgrade on Ferland, and this is coming from Ferland's biggest fan. I see great talent in Ferland, but I don't think he has it in him to realize it.
I think Lindholm will centre Tkachuck on the second line and Bennett will replace Ferland on the top line. Flames have strength up the middle 1 to 4. Lindholm is the best faceoff guy for the Flames.
The sweetener in Fox is tough, but the Flames must have had concerns about signing him.

My guess is that Brodie goes back onto a pairing with Gio who can cover the defensive warts TJ has and Hanifin slides in beside Hamonic.
That is a solid top 4 as long as Brodie rediscovers his game from 2 seasons ago...im just not sire that will happen though.
