Apologies in advance comrade, but the Flames ain't hitting home runs. They're hitting singles and doubles like everyone else, with an odd pop here or there. A home run is a Kucherov level pick, someone who becomes a dominant game-changing player. A triple would be a first line or first pair player, like Gaudreau. A double would be a guy that plays in your middle six or second pair. Singles are guys that are bottom line or bottom pairing players. Johnny Hockey is a triple, but the rest of picks are at best doubles. The best picks for Calgary are Fox (sadly a home run) and Gaudreau (a triple). Too bad the home run happened after he was sent to another team. That really would have helped the Flames. But no, the Flames are not hitting homeruns. The result prove that.

I like Hyman but indeed he reeks of a guy that is going to get overpaid as a free agent.

Exactly who I thought of. Hyman has had better years than Clarkson did before UFA eligibility though. I don't recall the type of players Clarkson was on a line with but Hyman has had the benefit of playing with a legit 1st line center in Tavares or Matthews.

Hyman is going to be Treliving's test of whether he truly learned anything from Brouwer and Neal.

Never thought I’d read “hyman” and “nuts” on this forum and nobody bat an eye at it. 2021 - we are so mature now.

So drafting a guy who has been 11th overall in points over the last 7 years in the 4th round is not a home run?
It keeps getting harder to take you seriously. It is like you take a ridiculous opinion and will argue it until you are blue in the face and moving the goal posts as required.
Since the lockout of 2006 the Flames picked 4 guys who I would say are absolute home runs. Brodie has been a top pairing Dman for a decade in the league and was picked in the 4th round of 08. Gaudreau as discussed above is an offensive superstar in the league and was 4th in Hart trophy voting in 18/19 and has been near ppg through 500+ games. Picked in the 4th round absolute home run. The next guy who is on his way to that status is Mangiapane who is a proven top 6 forward who continues to get better and I believe will establish himself as a 25+ goal scorer this year and he was a 6th rounder in his second year being eligible to be drafted. Last is Adam Fox who was a third rounder and just won the Norris at 23.
All of those players are picked in rounds where you don’t expect to one NHL players let alone stars or at least high end players. To call a guy who is a top 4/6 Dman/forward as anything but a home run they need to be drafted in the top 2 rounds. If you get stars beyond those are home runs.

The earliest you can sign a contract extension after signing a 1 year contract is Jan 1.

Hyman will go back to being a 0.5 point per game player. I don't believe any GM will hand out a 7-8 year term. I think that's too insane even for them.

Edmonton usually has to get insane to entice someone there if other teams are interested
They tried to outbid us on James Neal remember

that would be a great signing for them - Seattle has a lot of museums right?!
Not sure what Carolina was doing though...is this going to be a sign and trade? Not getting anything for Hamilton would be nuts on the part of Carolina
