Anointing Brady better than Matthew based on a single season and “a simple eye test” is laughable. He hasn’t broken 50 points, he has never even played at a 60 point pace
Matthew is fighting it this season but he has shown an offensive level at the NHL Brady simply hasn’t

And even this season they have pretty similar stats

If Buffalo said no to Monahan and Tkachuk but said give us Lindholm and Tkachuk, would people still do it? Lindholm is obviously a better asset that Buffalo would want.
Eichel is $10M and QO Chuckie and Lindholm combined are about $14M. But maybe Chuckie would sign a longer term deal in Buffalo for less AVV.
Suppose you could then move Backlund and resign Ryan at a proper contract so your salaries would work. Would people look at centre depth of Eichel-Monahan-Ryan-Dube (or Pelletier/Zary/Phillips or a bargain 4C). Can Ryan move up to a Backlund checking role (or can Monahan grow into a 200 foot guy like Sutter seems to think)?

IF for whatever reason we are dealing Tkachuk to Ottawa (I hope not), there is no way a top 10 pick this year and Logan Brown is even close to value.
It'd have to be something like:
Tim Stutzle + Batherson for Tkachuk + Monahan
or
Batherson + Norris for Tkachuk + 3rd
Maybe I'm a Flames homer, but I dislike trading quality for mediocre quantity.

Batherson + Norris would be awful. This team needs more elite talent and neither of those guys are that.
Stutzle is the obvious piece but unlikely.
Frankly the article is just someone filling space. Trading Tkachuk to Ottawa actually makes little sense for either team. The brother connection is the only reason it even gets talked about.
There are far better fits (like the aforementioned Kings)

I'll take that stootzlah guy for Matthew.
I would also listen on a package including Batherson.

Ottawa’s 1st and Colin White would be fine by me. Draft Clarke with Ottawa’s pick and then a forward with our own (from whoever falls). Tanev can be dealt in the 2022 offseason if we’ve made little to zero progress.

Stutzle for Tkachuk one for one
Sanderson+21st for Tkachuk+2nd
21 1st, 22 1st, 22 2nd could also work

I’d do Monahan, Lindholm, AND Tkachuk for Eichel
As painful as it sounds you leave that trade with a franchise center and 8 mil in cap space to bring in 2 more good players. Eichel is also signed longer than all 3, through his prime.

Buffalo likely wants you to retain or take some salary back to make it work (although they did shed Hall as well). I would take some salary back but not Skinner.
Thing is, that trade basically turns Buffalo into Calgary except without goaltending or defencemen. So I'm not sure about their plan or why they do it. They'd be running:
Tkachuk Lindholm Reinhart
Oloffson Monahan Okposo
This kinda looks like the Flames except older on the second line.

Call me crazy then if I think it’s foolish to trade Lindholm in a package for Eichel. We’re already giving up Tkachuk, hell no to both.

We would still have a foundation consisting of:
Gaudreau-Eichel-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Dube
Incoming: Zary, Pettersen, Ruzicka, Phillips
Gio-Tanev
Valimaki-Andersson
Incoming: Mackey, Kuznetzov, Poirier, Lerby
Markstrom
Incoming: Wolf

I seriously have to wonder what Eichel could do for the Flames that he hasn't done for Buffalo. Depleting the depth of the team to add Eichel pretty much makes us no different than the Sabres.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Eichel on the team, but if you have to cripple the team to do it, it's just not worth it. If you are adding a $10 million cap hit for several more years, I think you need to be really sure that the team has what it takes to be competitive after that, otherwise it might be just enough to handcuff the team financially and keep us on the bubble.
I would rather take our chances tanking and building through the draft.

That's too much unless we are tying to become Buffalo
8M for 2 good players is easy to say but what 2 good UFAs are coming here for 4M each? You might convince Hall with that 8M but them you really are trying to be Buffalo.

Why I asked isn’t necessarily because I agree. I just think it’s a more likely ask from them.

I think you under-rate how bad the Sabres have been in D, G, and bottom 9.
I think we could trade a D + 1-2 F's + prospect(s) and pick(s) and still be far ahead of BUF.
