His skating is dropping off really fast. This is going to be the worst contract in hockey in a few years.

It's the $104 million signing bonus that sealed the deal. Not a lot of teams can or will offer that much in bonus money. I expect that they will do the same for McDavid.

And again…. Very clear to see, and always has been, that Leon is the type of personality to completely mail it in when he has “done enough” in his books. Pretty likely he never breaks 80pts again, he has his bonus cash and he could give two rips about winning.

Would be really funny if he turned into a 70 point player after signing that contract. He likely has more 90-100 point seasons left in him but you never know… he’s getting noticeably slower and he’s feeling the hits more and more. Instead of guys bouncing off of him, the hits seem to knock him down more and more often.

He'll be turning 30 when the contract actually kicks in. It has the potential to be horrendous. Draisaitl does not seem like he aging particularly well. Could follow a Todd Bertuzzi style trajectory.

Most of these posts are wishful thinking, he still has several highly productive seasons left in him, and these huge contracts are almost always terrible on the back end, it won't be a surprise when it is.

I doubt he is a 14M player for half this contract....heck he might not be one now. 90 points doesnt cut it and his D is terrible

What makes this more attractive for the player? Tax reasons?

He gets the full amount of his bonus even if the contract is bought out.

doesn't take much to see the Oilers are going to be a disaster soon if they aren't already.
His salary almost doubles next season on a team with no prospects that already has cap and depth issues. His play will start to go down as will the play of the others who are getting big raises. Oilers won't be a good team for the majority of this contract. Feel free to bump this any time you like in the next 9 years.

I see them hanging around year after year like the Sharks but ultimately never winning the cup. It is wishful thinking to think they won’t be a contender in the west every year with how weak our conference is. Outside of Dallas, who else is a powerhouse team in the west ? They all have major question marks..
I guess Nashville could surprise. Colorado has no goalie and is missing tons of core players. Pacific looks like an easy walk to round 3 every year for the Oil. The East and Central have to run a gauntlet and with injuries The Oil could get lucky with an easy path every year. They aren’t winning the cup but it’s certainly a good time to be better than average in the West.

Not if Vegas finishes in a divisional seed. It was a fluke that put them in the Central bracket last time.

Define highly product. Is 100 points per? 90 ish points per? He will be getting paid $14 M per, what kind of production is justified for that amount?
