Having sincere debates with clowns is silly.

E=NG, village_idiot and the others probably confer via DMs thinking they've figured out how to troll CP with the "we" and "us" statements with their fake Flames fandom like primary school children orchestrating their first prank.

Meanwhile you guys keep answering the door to debate the the snickering nitwits in the bushes with the very obvious bag of poop at your feet.

I don't assume people are clowns. You're allowed to disagree with me or bring up points that I didn't think about. Isn't that type of discussion why we're all here?

There's more than one person in this thread who thinks this is a good deal for Edmonton. I'm not among them and haven't heard anything that would change my mind, but I'm open minded.

Several posters have come up with good points. Why would you want to be stubbornly wrong when you can learn from people who see things differently?

That is one sus response.

I suspect more and more with every take around the Oilers from you that you're in cahoots with these dorky bumonton trolls in some way.

I've been ripping them apart in this thread for this horrible contract, but okay.

What's a good contract then? A contract that you don't let 1 of your top players walk away?

This is the same crew that threatens “banning” if you don’t like the idea of 9 year contracts where the player doesn’t play in year 9 and the money earned in year 9 doesn’t count against the cap

I'd say since that first season they were always looking to improve their team. Let's face it guys will play in Vegas for less than Edmonton or Calgary or a lot of other cities. They traded for Stone gave him a 8 year deal, than signed Pietrangelo. Traded for Eichel after that. They did cast aside a 37 year old MAF at the time. But essentially gave him away after they traded for and signed Lehner. They doubled down last year getting Hanifan and Hertl to be an 8th place team who lost in round 1.

Eichel is signed for 2 more seasons. We'll see if they do the "smart" thing and trade him after this season for a "haul". Or if they extend him. Him in Vegas will cost less than Drai, but I'll be surprised if they don't try and keep him for his age 30 to 37 seasons.

Village idiot uses Crosby as a singular data point to argue that Draisaitl will keep scoring 100 points a season for the next 10 years.

Someone else includes Crosby's numbers in a larger data set to argue against Draisaitl doing so.

Oilers fans are hilarious.

Oiler fans and their state media floated much lower total dollar contracts for over a year...and then do a 180 and say this is some kinda bargain.

And walk away wasn't the only other option

But what number would you suggest? $13 mil?

Can't believe we are at almost 25 pages here.

At the end of the the day it is pretty simple, it is a contract they had to sign, and the number was irrelevant. Draisaitl will never live up to the contract in the long term, but I don't think they care in taking the plunge, because it isn't easy getting a player of that quality. Even if that player is now on the back nine of their career.

It also is really the only way they have a chance of extending McDavid. They have always been atrocious with cap management considering the entire decade of Draisaitl and McDavid with all the dead money and brutal contracts.

Even then, Crosby's decline is masked by the fact that scoring is up so much.

In 2013/14, when Crosby hit 104 points, no other players had 90 points and 5 players total were at 82 or more points.

Ten years later, this past season, 17 players had 90 or more points and 25 had 82 or more points.

Even Crosby had a big decline throughout his 30s relative to the league.

That's nice. There are no such contracts.

This is all correct.

So let's also disspell right now the fantasy that Leon averages 100 points like no other player in history including Gretzky and that they won't get better by allocatimg much more cap to the same few players.

I agree, the number maybe not completely irrelevant, but for me fair is around $13 to $14 mil. To me this contract is on the higher end of fair and no way is a discount. I think if he wanted north of $14 mil you have to consider other options.

Of course, it would be much better if he signed for $12.5 mil or less, but that wasn't an option unless he took a discount.

The issue the Oilers have is Nurse, Campbell, Neal, Brown's bonus and 0 ELC's and cheap RFA contracts with term on their team. These issues do not make Leon's contract bad. It's not a great contract, it has risk but the idea that they could just land a high end dman with a good contract and term on that contract or they would be better off walking him to UFA is just ridiculous. They made the right choice, especially if they want to keep McDavid too.

there isn't a contract that was just signed that's giving a player money in year nine that is not counting against the AAV?.....and the player is not obligated to play hockey in year nine under the terms of that contract?
