Friedman: Flames have looked at Jagr
If Jagr comes in, I'd love to see some line-up experimentation in the pre-season:
Versteeg - Monahan - Jagr
Frolik - Backlund - Lazar
Tkachuk - Bennett - Gaudreau
Ferland - Jankowski - Brouwer
Stajan, F. Hamilton
It'd just be exciting to get to see #68 coming down the wing in a Flaming C.

I understand management may be hesitant on him for a variety of reasons, but at the end of the day, the fans pay the bills and the excitement it would create would probably be good for this team. Not to mention Jagr is no slouch either, he can still go (relatively speaking).

Gaudreau - Monahan - Jagr - #1 Scoring Line. High proportion of offensive zone starts.
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik - One of the best lines in hockey. Plays against opponents #1.
Ferland - Bennett - Versteeg - Relentless forecheck and cycling.
Hathaway - Lazar - Brouwer - Wears opponents down, can chip in offensively.
This looks good.

No he's JAROMIR FRICKIN' JAGR aka the only player over 45
After taking the the puck from him last year 18 year old(speedster ) Tkachuk pulled away from him like a rabbit against a snail, Jagr is a defensive liability and is only a PP specialist at this point, all this signing would do is to take a job away from a youngster who worked his butt off to make the team, bad message to send

What youngster is going to be held back from this signing?
Jagr brings size, hands, and puck possession that this team could use. He is a tireless worker and a great role model to our current young core.
Jagr would be brought in to play on either the top line or with Bennett imo. His role would be to play with young players.
I think with Jagr Jankowski still makes the team so maybe Shinkaruk, Poirier, or Foo have to wait a little longer to get their chance but I am not banking on any of those 3 to be able to play the top 9 role Jagr would play.

Last season: 13 PP points, 33 even strength.
Last 3 seasons: 35 PP, 124 ES.
Yup. Power play specialist. Can't do a damned thing at even strength.

Like who? Jankowski is a center and the only real potential "ready" player in the youngster category unless you propose tossing Shinkaruk into that mix. Hoping on Foo to be capable right away is just a pipe dream
I'd rather have Jagr as a power play option alongside Johnny and Sean who can play limited third line minutes at even strength than simply just giving the spot to some younger player that can't do anything with limited minutes.

I do think a kid like Tkachuk would love having Jagr in the dressing room - to give pointers as well as tell some great war stories.

Did you watch his 2nd half last season? he hit a wall and looked like he was skating in quicksand, there's a reason the 23rd place Florida Panthers just flat out washed their hands of him and it's not their forward depth for scoring goals.
If Jagr would agree to a PTO then fine but I suspect he wouldn't out play more than 2 of those prospects you mentioned

I would say that Jagr would make this team better. Though he doesn't necessarily fit in with the speed that Calgary is building, he definitely does fit in with Gulutzan's puck possession type hockey.
Injuries occur throughout the season, and signing Jagr doesn't mean that one of the prospects is going to be stuck in the minors all season. I think Calgary would be a better team with Jagr than without. The fanboy in me definitely wants it to happen, but the Calgary Flames' fan in me also thinks he can contribute nicely to the roster. I don't care if a player is 25 or 45 - I just care about how a player performs and what he has to add to the team make-up.

From 11 Jan 2017 Jagr scored 9G and 21 points in 40 GP; 5G and 16 of those points were scored at ES. In the second half of last season he was the Panthers' fifth highest scoring forward. He may be slow, but he still gets things done.

Exactly right, and the same thing applies to Mike Smith in net (but with an additional year of commitment). Get it done, Tre! Go big or go home.

No he isn't. Based on his history, a second-rate Eklund, and that speaks for itself.

I think I dissected some of his tweets at the TDL this year (not sure if it was the same guy). From what I remember, he had certain things about trades correct but completely whiffed on details (time of trade, which pieces were moving). Other 'partially rights' beside the Hamonic one include re-signing Russell, trading Eberle, the signing of Foo.
So judging by this pattern, if I were to guess, he probably has the AAV wrong. But 3.7 sure is high... it leaves just under 3.5 mill to sign all of Bennett, Kulak and Wotherspoon.

If the number is correct (and the rumour turns out to be a real signing) it would leave the Flames with $3,465,790 in cap-space with Bennett and Kulak to sign.
$3.7M could also be bonus-based, which would allow them to go over the cap. They currently have $850,000 in possible bonuses on the roster (all belonging to Tkachuk I believe).

Until Jarome announces his retirement or puts pen to paper with another club, I'm holding out hope.
