The worst part of the Sanchez debacle for United is it seemed pretty clear he was only going there for money from the start. I suppose you could never expect him to fall this far off the cliff, but it was always fraught with huge risk.

Isn't every transfer always fraught with huge risk? How at the time did you perceive that transfer to be a huge risk compared to others?

They got him for free managing to dump Welbeck on Arsenal. He'll cost them roughly 80M on wages.

The problem is you're only focusing on that.

Do you see Maguire as a huge risk? His cost of acquisition before salary is equal to Sanchez's total cost? Is Pepe a huge risk?

Your statement is simply a hindsight statement and can be applied to pretty much any transaction.

Its not even just the risk that his performance wouldnt merit his wages, which was an issue, they made it a systemic problem.

Players who were outperforming him were pointing at his wages and using it as their benchmark, as was their right. Its always dangerous having a hugely compensated player who isnt worth his money.

De Gea is a good example. Despite having a poor season by his standards he still played far better and a far more important role in the squad and when it came time to renegotiate his wages who does he point the finger at? Sanchez.

Sanchez became a problem for the dressing room, the manager and the boardroom and as with any negotiation another team sees United as dealing from a position of weakness because they want to dump this guy so he isnt around anymore, so they're going to squeeze every Euro they can out of the deal.

He simply isnt worth what hes paid to any prospective buyer, United wont like it but then it depends on how badly they want him gone.

City did the same thing for years overpaying underperforming players and wound up just letting them sit because no other team was ever going to come close to the wages they were getting until circumstances changed.

United's option is to keep him, but his wage packet, by existence alone, is dragging everyone else's up making the problem worse.

all of that is true. I just don't see Inter as the knights in shiny armour that come to save United by offering to pay Sanchez 25% of his wages to take him on loan. They don't inquire about Sanchez because they want to help United, they inquire about Sanchez because they see value in getting him. It all comes down to how desperately United want to get rid of him. I don't see value in paying 75% of his wages while he plays for another club, that makes little sense to me. United have a limited number of attackers as it is, might as well keep him if that's what Inter are offering.

I didn't see the whole game, but it was hard to say whether Norwich looked good or Chelsea looked bad. In the end, Chelsea got the win, but they sure don't look like a top four team at this point.

Pukki with 5 goals in 3 games now, impressive.

Chelsea cant defend when the attackers come at speed.. Mount looks really good. Barkley and Emerson are sorely lacking in creativity. Zouma should not be starting for a top club.
I like watching Norwich - they make the game entertaining, win or lose. Hope to see a 7-3 scoreline against MCI.

VAR doesn't seem to have cleared much up for penalty calls yet.

you expect English refs to be brutal, but hats off to Paul Tierney. Takes a truly terrible ref to stand out from the sad crowd.

In about 5 seconds you got the two sides of Pogba there.

Bad giveaway, then a great tackle, and then a great ball to set up the goal

Edit: And then another giveaway that led to the Palace counter for likely the winner.

Great tackle by Benteke to start that break. That is awful from De Gea though.

Always good for a couple of goals.

Is Emery a little league coach?

Playing from the back wasn't as dumb as giving Robertson and Alexander-Arnold the entire left and right half of the field to operate. They must have been bored with how easy it was.

Its clearly both, but the problem was that they'd play from the back and then lose the ball and then Liverpool were owning the middle and operating completely free on the wings.

I'll take the win, its a shame it wasnt a clean-sheet, but take the points and move along.

Man our back 4 is unreliable. Sanchez just completely out of position on that first goal.

'Joelinton' sounds like a half-assed Witness Protection Cover name.
