I'm hoping to get down on Saturday AM as work schedule unfortunately does not allow for it this week (damn work!...lol)...Unfortunatley, Sat often gets cut short...

Appreciate all updates/pics from those that can attend!

"united" had some great updates last year!

No Negrin, Grantham or MacMillan today. MacMillan not expected to hit the ice at all this week.

Ortio looked really strong in drills. Good reflexes and he made some really good efforts to stop pucks. The new goaltender, Lamoureaux, also looked strong. Irving seemed to have an off day.

Amongst defenders, Erixon and Brodie both looked good. Deilert seemed to have problems on his skates today, particularly during some shooting drills.

Up front, Backlund was the best player on the ice today, as would be expected. Nipping at his heels was #39, Bryan Cameron. Cameron had good reflexes and a great shot. Carter Bancks, Ryan Howse and Gaelan Patterson also looked strong.

I attended today's session and basically had a list of players and their numbers with a space for comments below. I just watched and if a player was noticeable, I'd write it down. I'll be attending a few more and will write down my thoughts.

GOALTENDERS
33 G Irving, Leland
Day 1 - I thought that Irving was the strongest of the goaltending bunch today. He was solid positionally and had a few dandy saves.

31 G Lamoureux, J.P.

1 G Lanigan, Cam

37 G Ortio, Joni
Day 1 - He's a tremendous athlete and was solid, but not as good as Irving.

DEFENSEMEN
54 LD Breen, Chris

66 LD Brodie, T.J.
Day 1 - He showed some pretty good offensive instincts today. The best defensemen today.

80 RD Deilert, Alex

51 LD Erixon, Tim
Day 1 - I didn't notice him at all really, despite looking out for him. Stuck around with Wahl after practice goofing around and he got a pretty nice tip-in.

45 LD Leach, Joey

63 RD Meyers, Josh
Day 1 - He had a good little 1-on-1 battle with Backlund where he did pretty well.

61 LD Negrin, John
Day 1 - Wasn't on the ice.

40 LD Nyren, Giffen

43 RD Seabrook, Keith

FORWARDS
75 C Armstrong, John

49 C Arnold, Bill

60 C Backlund, Mikael
Day 1 - He was just bigger and faster than everyone else. He was pretty snake-bitten today and got stoned by Irving quite a bit. Used his stick on one occasion to take his frustration out on the glass.

46 LW Bancks, Carter

68 LW Bennett, Spencer

57 LW Bouma, Lance
Day 1 - He showed some pretty good hands and finish today. I was pleasantly surprised by Bouma.

39 RW Cameron, Bryan

74 C Carpentier, Hugo

79 LW Ferland, Michael

73 L Grantham, Ryley

78 RW Holland, Patrick

64 RW Howse, Ryan
Day 1 - One of the fastest guys there and the best shooter. He has great hands too. I love this guy.

58 LW Larson, Nick

38 LW MacMillan, Logan
Day 1 - Did not practice today.

77 C Marvin, Aaron

48 RW Nemisz, Greg
Day 1 - I didn't see much out of Nemisz.

71 C Patterson, Gaelan

59 C Reinhart, Max

47 RW Rheault, Jon

72 LW Severyn, C.J.

52 C Wahl, Mitch
Day 1 - Solid skater with a wicked shot and decent hands.

I might head down tomorrow and see if I can catch the afternoon, though I might miss a bit of it.

I loved seeing him do that. He was definitely more solid than everyone, but to him it wasn't good enough. Hopefully he brings this attitude to the main camp!

Okay, here we go...

Taking a knee:

Backlund and Holland in on Ortio:

Lining up for a drill. 1on1 puck battles:

Erixon before eating it by way of an Ortio poke:

Erixon making up for it against Irving:

Backlund with a squeaker by Ortio: (like said above, he was snakebitten against Irving)

Stretching it out at the end of the session:

Irving, Ortio, Lanigan, and Lamoureux debriefing with Noodles:

Great to see Backlund stand out. I know he has NHL experience, but he needs to constantly be at the top of his game if he wants a NHL job.

Looks like it starts Sept 12th. the Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Ducks, and Sharks prospects are participating. I didn't realize the Ducks and Sharks joined in. I might have to try and catch a Flames game. As of now they don't list which games are in Vancouver and which are in Penticton.
