We all know how that worked out for the Saints who were very fortunate the Dolphins passed on him. The drafting of Kyler Murray 1st overall as well as several <6' tall players in the latest NHL draft is telling that there's starting to be a shift back to skill over outright measurables. I'm not saying Wolf is going to become a HOF player or even an NHL regular but given his stellar junior career there's little doubt he was a major steal for the Flames.
Honestly, I think in the last decade-ish, Tim Thomas and Jaroslav Halak have generally been two of the best goalies, period. Goalie is a mental position, whether that's tracking the puck or having sound positioning or just being sharp with your glove hand. The big butterfly goalie is great on paper but we've seen first hand that it can be the cause of some poor habits.

If Wolf is shorter, it's not by much.
OK so I saw Parsons and Wolf together at Winsport, not in hockey gear. Wolf was clearly smaller and shorter than Parsons, by at least a few inches. Some guy recognized Wolf and asked for his autograph and asked how camp was going. Dustin said it was going good and that Tyler was showing him the ropes, indicating to Parsons. The guy then figured out it was Parsons and asked for his autograph too.

I hate to be so blunt but Wolf did look like a 14 year old and looked like a deer in the headlights. Parson's was relaxed, mature and clearly proud to be helping out the younger players. Wolf was clearly a few inches shorter and quite few pounds lighter. I think Wolf has great potential but has to be given time to fill out, grow and mature. Like any goalie prospect, it's a crap shoot and I wish him well.

Dustin Wolf survives the first round of cuts for team USA at the WJSS. USA had enough players for two full squads but have cut down the camp to just 31 players.

The other 2 goalies left are Spencer Knight (Fla 1st 2019) and Isaiah Saville (VGK 5th 2019).

Wolf had a .949 sv % and 1.92 GAA in the first 2 days of the WJSS

That’s awesome. It’s good to hear he’s doing well. I’m really hoping he succeeds given his underdog status.

I'm fully committed to the Dustin Wolf hype-train. I expected him to go waaaay sooner in the draft, and honestly can't believe he fell to us with the 4th last pick. I'm going to try to follow him as close as possible in the next few years.

I dug into this a little bit:

Dustin Wolf played for the first two days behind the USA White squad, along with undrafted G Drew DeRidder. The White team lost both their games to Finland (2–3) and Sweden (1–2 OT). USA White outshot Finland 38–21 in the first game, and DeRidder posted a 0.824 SP, while v. Sweden they were outshot 39–33 with Wolf in goal.

Both Spencer Knight and Isaiah Seville played for Team USA Blue, which won both their games handily: 4–2 v. Sweden with Seville posting a 0.905 SP on 21 shots, and 7–1 v. Finland where Knight badly outplayed his counterpart Jasper Patrikainen, and stopped 26/27 shots. Wolf lost his game because he did not get anywhere near the run support that Knight and Seville benefitted from behind USA Blue. Based on the numbers he looks to be arguably right there with Knight as the top goalie in camp.

Keep stuff like this in mind for those that are writing off the rest of the prospect list

I predict Wolfie sprouts up to 6'2", and becomes a star ala Binnington/Hart....

I like this pick... I think it's going turn out good for us. I know some think he's shorter than what a new NHL standard goalie should be in today's NHL.. but he's still growing and many of the great goalies are exactly his size. I think he'll be 6'2 or there about... in the same category as Binnington, Quick, Carey, and Rask.

Goalies are so hard to pick in the draft... so many things can change as they develop.

That was bugging me too - get the name right!!! But, not the worst thing given half the world spelled Miikka Sakari Kiprusoff wrong for his entire career.

Alright, lets hope 3rd time with a spirit animal pays off. Flames didn't do too well with a Wolfe or a Fox before. We'll see if Wolf works out this time.

I really think it will... I was so excited about the Gaudreau pick back then... something about it made me feel it was going to be great.... I mean, I thought that about the Tkachuk pick as well... but there is a huge different between a 6th overall pick and a 104th and 214th picks - there is way less intuitive needed for a first round pick. I think Wolf is going to be awesome and I can't wait till we sign him, I was so worried that Gaudreau wouldn't sign here and was so happy when he finally did.

And this is one of the 2 "goals" Sweden was credited with against Wolf:

What the hell is that? It's like an Oilers goal.

I really thought Knight would have been great but this kid was right up there. To get hi. So late was bonkers. This is the most excited I've been for a goalie prospect since....maybe ever.

Unfortunately the only way to watch the game live is hockeyTV.com that requires paid subscription.
