I know, I'm still working from home otherwise I'd be riding every weekday, 8 on the weekend might have to get out on the highway for some miles

But do you still ride for pleasure or just commuting? And don't say it's a pleasure to commute.

Like, "Hey, it's a beautiful day, I'm going for a 30-40km ride around the city?"

Why can't it be a pleasure to ride for my commute? It sure beats the heck out of driving, and if I didn't enjoy it I would be driving (especially in the winter).

I'm not saying it can't be pleasurable, I enjoyed my commute before working from home. Riding a bike to work is infinitely more enjoyable than driving a car to work.

That said, riding a bike without work being the destination is infinitely better than commuting. Do you ever just go for winter bike rides?

Part of the reason I commute is that I have to have a destination; especially in winter. I need something to get my butt into gear.

Usually not. Monday to Friday (and Saturday's in the Spring, Summer and Fall) are my rides to work. Weekends are for family time, and we'll get out for some smaller rides sometimes.

That's why I rarely take the shortest distance to/from work, I enjoy extending the rides and making the most of it. Even if it is just a couple of extra km's.

It's definitely harder to get the motivation to just ride in crap weather when there isn't a destination involved. For me it's more to do with having to clean the bike afterwards. I hate it. But I also sold the only bike I had for poorer conditions.

100% agree, hard to head out in -10 to -20 if you don't have to.

To me -10 to -20 is perfect fat biking weather. But, obviously a different ride versus those of you who like to rack up the big smiles on skinny tires.

I thought about pulling my gravel rig out, but it is clean and in my basement.

Rode the gravel bike twice this weekend and had to clean it twice, if it was summer I would have skipped riding outside but good days are few and far between.
-5 to -10 is perfect though, don't have to deal with all this run-off

Has anyone fatbiked in Field, BC area by chance - going for some XC skiing, but will bring the fattie along with too.

Crap - trail forks shows no bike trails at all in field, so to me, it seems like you would have to go to golden.

Pulled out my fat bike today. It was nice to get some miles in. I rode in the bow bottom area. The wind was in my face for the first half and then pushed me home, which is the way I like it

great day to take the gravel bike (w/ winter studded tires) out for a spin around town. About 95% good and clear except for a few sections such as lesser-used neighborhood roads where it can be sketch. Those strong and gusty winds certainly made for some challenging sections.

I’m not sure the legality or the avalanche risk by fat biking of to takakaw falls would be pretty awesome

this past weekend was a rare one for me so far this winter as i got out on the fatbike for two rides. Most of the trails in the bow bottom flats area were pretty good and the snow was still packed. the creek crossing were still frozen over.

tomorrow, my wife and i are going to try a spin class at the local good life. not sure what to expect.

Looking for some advice. Currently I have two bikes; my winter bike is a beast of a mountain bike (probably CCM)- and then I have bit better of a hybrid bike that I use in the summer. I had previously used by "summer bike" year round. I am thinking of buying another rim and mounting one of my winter tires onto it; that way I can get some use out of it in the winter months where the pathways are mostly clear. (Right now I think I have maybe 5 spots of ice, none longer than a few metres.)

Should it just be as simple as that to swap out just the front wheel? Do I need to look for anything special in the wheel? Current tire size is 700c-32 so I was looking at getting a wheel like this one:

Am I on the right track here?

Rim brakes. (I guess that is a pretty important bit of info.)

I'd try to make sure the rim is the same width. Back when I had rim brakes, I usually had to re-adjust the pads because they were different.
