Just bought an item from a guy who's username was "Hey its still available". Kinda smart considering how many messages he probably gets from ppl asking nothing but if its still available

if i get some questions from a buyer, i try to make an effort to update my ad and incorporate the answers to the questions in my ad, to prevent others from asking similar questions

I'd do that if I didn't get questions that are answered by my ad.

Had a guy over the weekend threaten to "bring his boys and get his fkn money back" over a $2,000 car that I disclosed had an oil leak. You can barely find a $2,000 car for sale that even runs and you expect me to be responsible for some other issue you found. Of course he has my address because a bill of sale requires it.

99% he's all talk trying to get me to offer something back, told him to get lost and not contact me again. Unfortunately, my wife works from home alone everyday so that nagging 1% is there. Did file a police report just in case.

People are the worst.

Not kijiji but I was in a Calgary FB hobby group and posted a listing asking if anybody had an item I was looking for sale perhaps.

Somebody messages and we chat about a mutually agreeable price. Then try to figure out a good place to meet up . . . turns out the person is in . . . New Brunswick.

Thanks you ####ing moron. Wasting both our time.

Well did you ask him at the start if he was in New Brunswick? Sounds like a communication problem

Kijiji shoppers are cheap bashtards, generally speaking.

Oh yeah. It is specifically a Calgary Hobby group. Hell, the group rules specifically mentions that it is for "Calgary and surrounding area".

I mean, I guess I could call around to pizzerias in New Brunswick and see if they deliver to Calgary.

I posted some old rusty bent tomato cages, “curb alert, free”.

I get a response and the lady says she’s coming in from 30 mins away… I told her she was nuts and the 4 new cages weren’t worth the price of gas to even get here. She brushes that off and says she’s coming that evening.

And hour later she writes saying “my husband says no, sorry”.
Yeah no ####, that would have been insane!

I will be in Calgary next week selling my Dad’s car for him. Probably worth about $10k. Do people suggest kijiji or auto trader?

I had great success with kijiji auto, myself. They have an algorithm that determines if you're selling the vehicle below at or above average price and posts that in your ad. What I wanted came in at above average and I was worried that was a killer. Still had hundreds of views and tons of inquiries and sold within 3 days of listing. (This was a few years ago, so nothing to do with the current insane used car market).

But I haven't sold with Auto Trader for comparison.

Auto Trader, for sure. I’ve listed a $20,000 suv on Kijiji, FB Marketplace and Autotrader at the same time. FB was the worst - hundreds of ‘is it available’s and ‘I’m a serious buyer; what’s the lowest you can go?’. Kijiji was not much better, but less nuisance messages. The first guy who responded to my Autotrader ad came by, test drove it in the parking lot, left me a $1,000 deposit and bought the vehicle for $20,000 next day without haggling. I gave him a set of winter tires as a gift for being so decent. He didn’t even ask for them. I’ve had three more messages that Sunday from Autotrader until I took it off - all legit, polite and reasonable questions.
There was not a single nothing-message from AT.

My son told me that Kijiji is better for buying/selling ####ty cars and trucks under $3,000. But that’s his hearsay, not mine.

Was the item a bowling ball? Because then I can see the communication issue.

For what it's worth, I've sold a handful of personal cars over the years (ranging from about $3k to $35K, so nothing crazy high), and I list on both Kijiji and Autotrader. Every single sale so far has come from Kijiji.

I personally think Autotrader is better for searching dealer inventory.

People searching Autotrader are normally looking to buy a specific vehicle. After filtering their search, they get straight to your listing. So, in essence, they are your Grade A top-prospects (who are looking to buy what you have to sell). Private sellers have some advantage over dealers on Autotrader, because of no GST, so their listings are more attractive in comparison to similar vehicles.

On FB and Kijiji thousands of people just browse and all of a sudden decide to inquire about an ad they see. The most bizarre one for me was “Hi, I’m a single mother of four. Would you consider donating your car to us?”

Post it everywhere, kijjiji, autotrader, marketplace.

In the first line of the ad write "it's available, so don't ask". Will help weed out some morons.

I’m kind of a dick and when I am scrolling through adds will fire off an is it still available if I see that or if someone posts No low balls I send them a low ball. Both of these things are implied by the nature of the platform.
