Just buy a new laptop. A new, cheap laptop is going to be extremely affordable and probably better than any old used laptop you might get for a similar price.

I bought some used laptop at Computer Rack before and was happy with it. It is on 1A Street SE a block away north of 58th opposite Chinook Centre.

I use to work for GEEP(Global Electric Electronic Processing). They refurbish laptops, computers, printers etc.. They do have a warehouse in Calgary but you can't walk in a buy something. Unfortunately you have to buy through the online store.

City of Calgary surplus has good deals on used computers.

Seriously? I actually have one somewhere. Unless the better half threw it out like she said she would.
I'll go look if you actually want one.

Haha, I think I have my old one buried somewhere too. Thanks for offering to look, but I was being tongue in cheek. Given the life span of computers these days, I was shocked to hear there was a used market for them.

Staples has refurbs for sale. But rather than buy a used computer, I'd suggest buying open box from Bestbuy or Memory Express.

I find the best refurbished/used computers at a reasonable price is Dell Refurbished. They've all been inspected and restored to factory condition.

This. You can find a decent laptop for close to what you will pay for a used one. Places like Laptop Depot are meant for people who don't have a means to spend $400-500 in one shot, and need financing.

Just looking at Best Buy- here's one that will be good for basic surfing and documents:

If you were OK with used, also look at refurbished.

What's your budget?

For any laptop model that Memory Express has in stock, go to www.shopbot.ca and search for it. They will match any price + 10% of the difference.

Getting informed is half the battle. A lot of people don't need half the stuff a laptop offers so they pay too much, or they get sucked into marketing and pay too much (Macbooks).

Ask yourself what do you exactly need it for, then hunt down the laptop that suits your needs.

I know at least 2 or 3 people who own $2,000+ Macbooks just to watch movies and go on FB.

This is a pretty sweet one i5 $540. I know they have been selling many of these brand new lately. I don't think it's actually "refurbished". Probably just open box. Business grade laptop is good.

i7 for $700.

i3 $455, but maybe you like how far it can bend.

I got a 5 year old Dell i7 notebook from the office for next to nothing, threw in a modern SSD and it's running Windows 7 & 10, Photoshop, Illustrator, Office, and every productivity tool I need without breaking a sweat. Computers can be cheap if you are smart.
